Emerald Downs

Post by Lamda » Wed May 08, 2019 9:30 pm

I like this forum already :D

Any peeps here frequent Emerald Downs? I used to be in an owner partnership with Jeff Metz when he was there the last few years but sadly he decided not to come back this year. Anybody have any ownership in a horse there? My horse got into the winners circle a few times which was fun.

I have owned bits of 5 different horses but they have all raced on the east coast where the purses are so much better

yeah the purses here do suck. My horse has ran where the winning purse was anywhere between 6500-10k. The winner of course takes 55% minus 10% to jockey/trainer and then I get 10% of that, lol...

My greatest horse owning achievement was when my horses won back to back races at Penn National. I was on cloud 9 for weeks afterwards.

In my "yout" I was the youngest groom at Longacres. Supposed to be just a hot walker, but the trainers would approach me to walk the horses over to the paddock from the barns because I was 5'6" and weighed 145. At 14 I was a bit big. Bigger than a lot of the grooms. Fun time. Didn't make much money but whenever I wasn't working, I'd meet my friends and their Dad and he'd place bets for me. Won 8 out of 10 one day. Made more on $2 bets than I would have if I had worked for a week!

My aunt and uncle owned horses. That's how I got into it.

My proudest racing moment was when Arthur took 4th at the KPLZ weiner dog races at Emerald Downs circa 2007...

It was obvious that the trainer was to inebriated to get Arthur a better placing
