Rocker and Leiter would have both been picked likely in the 1st round of it weren't for signability. Maybe sexymariner can come in and give us more context about where these to college players were projected out of HS.
Nailed it. Plus Al's son was going to college. That had been in the plan for years. He wasn't going to let his boy sign unless he was a Top 5 pick, which he wasn't, coming out of High School. They are both projected to go 1 and 2 in the upcoming draft, with Kumar, the Superior prospect of the entire class. Leiter is the next closest, but a tier below.

Nonetheless, every day the Mariners take the field I want them to win. The draft is a crapshoot and the players aren't going to be in the show for three or four years anyway so unless you've got a Junior or A-Rod sitting there at #1 there's virtually zero sense in rooting for draft position in baseball.

That said, it would be so awesome if the organization announced that it was tanking the season just to piss everyone else off, especially every time they lose a game. Seriously, DO IT.
Kumar is the next Jr. and ARod, of pitching.

I'm OK with college pitchers. I like the last 3 we picked. Most of the best pitchers in MLB went to college. The last few HS hitters we took early flamed out. Take the player you think has the best chance of making an MLB impact.
Hardly....We know nothing yet about the last three we drafted.... could be like three before we drafted from college....... Danny Hultzen, TJ Walker (no he was high school) Phillip Aumont, Josh Fields? Are you kidding?

Felix, our best pitcher never attended college, Kerry Wood, CC Sabathia, Josh Beckett, Adam Wainwight, Zack Grienke , Scott Kazmir, Cole Hamels, Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Clayton Kershaw, Lance Lynn, and Chad Billingsley are all memorable high schoolers who became all stars...

The last few high school hitters we drafted flamed out? Which ones... Ken Griffey, Alex Rodrigues, Adam Jones, John Mayberry Jr.?
Our college hitters were worse... Jeff Clement, Matt Mangini, Dustin Ackley, Mike Zunino, DJ Peterson....

Other teams have done well drafting high school hitters also.... Mike Trout, Christian Yelich, Josh Hamilton, Jason Werth, Jay Bruce, Joe Maur, David Wright, Prince Feilder, Billy Butler, Justin Upton, Andrew McClutcheon, Jason Heywood, and Manny Machado all became all stars.... Lets see what happens with Jared Kellenic, Juan Soto, and a bunch others...
Honestly, I don't see your argument at all....
Garrett Cole, Max Sherzer, Justin Verlander, Jacob Degrom, Walker Buehler, Steven Strausburg, Trevor Bauer, Shane Beiber. All college pitchers. Who is the last HS batter that the Mariners have hit on? Its been well over a decade. How is Nick Franklin, Alex Jackson, Marcus Littlewood, Kevin Kron, Joe Decarlo, Joe Rizzo, etc working out?

7 of the top 10 (and all of the top 6) are college pitchers. 2 HS. I is dominican.

Some had Zac Veen higher on their board than Emerson Hancock. Veen did not fit the Mariners competitive window. Prospects such as Rocker and Leiter most definitely do. If the M's find themsekves un the Top 2, chances are pretty good, it'll be another college pitcher.

And some had Hancock as the #1 pick before the season. He definitely has upside and isn't some safe low ceiling pick.

Exactly. I had a wider net than most. I was gonna be happy had the Mariners drafted either prospect(along with Meyer, Martin, Lacey, and to a lesser degree Gonzales). If Hancock hadn't of slipped out of the gate with some minor injuries, we might not of had the fortune of getting him at 6. Funny how things like that work.

Ok, I am officially in the FUBAR for Kumar camp. I would prefer a hitter but Kumar seems to stand out high above the rest. Other than Crawford, Klew, Nola, Moore, Marco and Seags, this team really sucks.

Good news is we are tied for the #2 spot!
