Another "high floor" guy.

How many gosh damn 5th starters do we need? It's all we have for crying out loud. At some point you have to get someone in front of these bums.

I didnt expect much for EE- and I think the parrot was the most annoying sideshow I've ever seen. Just ahead of Rodney's bow and arrow routine, but this is just such a weird return.

They traded JP Sears and Then for Rumbelow, who was terrible, now our best chip brought back half that return? I dont know... Seems so weird.

Actually, if you look at it like they're just happy lining their pockets by saving half the contract, it makes perfect sense from Dipoto. He must get bonuses for how much he doesnt spend like Billy Beane.

seems underwhelming...and why the hurry?...Dipoto really must have felt there wasn't a market for him...if you trade a guy a month before the deadline you are supposed to get a premium, this was a premium?

There is one thing we should keep in mind as Dipoto cuts $'s from our roster this season.

I remember hearing Dipoto talk about the team's budget and how they are thinking big picture, not one year at a time, but multiple years.

He has saved on Bruce and Encarnacion to the tune of about $10 million

Suppose the mandate was, "This is your rolling budget for the next 3 years, any dollars you save now can be utilized over the next two years."

When we're ready to contend in 2021, I'd be pretty happy if that extra money is available on top of normal budget to make a move and go for it without having to ask for dollars.

Pretty optimistic viewpoint given this teams history, but I think it's a good possibility.

The prospects we got for Bruce and Encarnacion plus an extra $10 mil to spend in 2021 make the return a bit easier to stomach.

Go visit the Astros forum most are saying why didn't we beat that he was a perfect fit. Was EE bringing back 1 of their top 5 (No) but we got a 40 grade overall prospect.
Juan Then
Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 50 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 50 | Overall: 40
There is some room for growth both in frame 6"1" 155# 19 year old and overall polish and adding a 4th pitch.

I just can't stress enough how important EE could be to the Astros. 1B is a black hole for them EE has an OPS+ in the 140s and is short term and we were willing to eat cash. Houston's window is closing they lost a lot of pitching including their home-grown Ace Keuchel. Verlander and Cole are short term and has anyone else noticed mighty mouse Altuve has been worth .3 WAR and a 113 OPS+ this year. They have a finite window and if I was Gm Lunlow I would be building a super-team by filling in weak positions to strengths 1B Yuli G 35 year old with an 83 OPS+ with vs. EE 140 OPS+. The deal would have been M's sending EE and the
Astros send Yuli owed 10.4 this year and 8.4 next and a decent not top 5 prospect.

The Astros would have a line-up with absolutely no easy-outs.
So by top 5, I don't get my most coveted pitching prospect Forrest Whitley
Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 65 | Control: 50 | Overall: 65
LOL just back for injury 3 starts 12.21 ERA in 8 games 5 starts AAA.
I am thinking something like: Peter Soloman pitcher or Freudys Nova SS age 19
Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 65 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50

I find it so damn laughable that we are now accepting a throw in level prospect for an all-star level 1B/DH with a 140s OPS+ and short term contract plus sending like 10 M in cash.

I think this was some dumb ass Scheisse.

The one good thing is this trade pisses off Toronto fans something chronic. I hope he hits a grandslam against them just to twist the knife a bit more.

A seriously obnoxious bunch and no matter what stadium I visit in any city the majority of the time it's them playing as the opposition including a Fenway stadium tour where I had to endure their ceaseless babbling.

This move by the yanks seems like a move to trade Fraizer for some pitching. I wish we had a serviceable veteran the Yanks would take now to get Fraizer. A potential outfield of Kelenic, Fraizer, Julio would be sweet.

Found this on another site, enjoy!

I imagine the Dipoto/Cashman trade discussion went something like this

Cashman: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the season?
Dipoto: Now, it happens now, sir. Everything that happens now is happening now. Cashman: what happend to Then?
Dipoto: You traded Then back to me. Cashman: When?
Dipoto: Just now. For Encarnacion.
Cashman: I want back Then!
Dipoto: When?
Cashman: Now.
Dipoto: Now?
Cashman: Now!
Dipoto: I can’t.
Cashman: Why?
Dipoto: We missed it.
Cashman: When?
Dipoto: Just now.
Cashman: When will Then be in the show?
Dipoto: Soon.
