Sure but we can jump off that bridge when we get to it. Shouldn't impact the decision as whether or not to trade for him. Two completely unrelated decisions imo.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 7:04 pmI'm referring to what a contract might look like going forward with this team. Yes he's a free agent superstar in 2021. Is he the RIGHT superstar that this team needs? I'm not quite sold. So when I say salary structure, all I'm alluding to is what his future demands might be. For instance, if he wants 10 years $300M(I'm just throwing a random number out there), then I'm out.
We have no idea where we are at in terms of financial structure commitments beyond 2021 due to Covid. I think we can take a rough guess, but as of right now, I don't know what the front offices plans are in terms of taking on a superstar like Lindor, or Bauer.

So you're saying you believe we have the funds necessary to support a player like Lindor regardless if he is here or not beyond 2021?D-train wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 7:41 pmSure but we can jump off that bridge when we get to it. Because I'm not trading for a 1 year rental, or to try and flip him at the July deadline either. I'd want to him here long term. I'm just not sure that we know where we stand financially beyond 2020 because of Covid.
Re: Francisco Lindor
I’d be against it. It’s giving up a lot, and risks being a trade-for-rental if he can’t be signed here. For a marquee infielder, I’d rather wait to the 2021 FA season and go for Seager.
Re: Francisco Lindor
He is making $17.5M and is a one year rental so he won't cost a lot of prospect currency. It all depends on if you think Crawford will finally hit.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 7:53 pmSo you're saying you believe we have the funds necessary to support a player like Lindor regardless if he is here or not beyond 2021?D-train wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 7:41 pmSure but we can jump off that bridge when we get to it. I don't see a huge lathered up group of Baseball Gms ready to start a bidding war for Francisco Linder....But the Mariners may be gullible enough to empty out some qauality prospects to get a half-year renta.
Re: Francisco Lindor
I would say there is a better chance Trump and Kamala leave their spouses and elope to Madagascar where they live naked amongst the local in a grass hut than we trade for Lindor.

On the Athletic, Jim Bowden wrote a piece about 13 moves the Mets should make now that they are getting a new owner. Here is a timely excerpt about his #1 move:Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 6:08 pmI actually just asked this on the Hot Stove thread. Personally, no, I wouldn't. Thats too much.
Lindor should be the Mets’ top trade target. He’s the complete player. The four-time All-Star is a Gold Glove shortstop with above-average range to both sides, a plus arm, soft hands and quick feet. He can turn the double play with the best of them. The Silver Slugger winner can hit for average and power and can steal as many bases as he wants to. The most important part of Lindor’s game is his high energy and positive attitude. His smile is contagious and like Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he’s the player you want to be the face of your franchise. It would take a strong package to land him but the Mets could package together Mauricio, Davis and Nimmo and that might be enough to pry him away from Cleveland. Lindor is a free agent after 2021, so the Mets will want to extend him either at the time of the trade or soon after if possible.
So the trade above seems substantially more than Bowden is saying the Mets would give up. I would think Crawford, Dunn, and Fraley gets it done.

I'd do that, but the Indians would hang up the phone at Dunn.Bil522 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 4:28 amOn the Athletic, Jim Bowden wrote a piece about 13 moves the Mets should make now that they are getting a new owner.
