DJ LeMahieu To Reject Qualifying Offer

Post by AT Funchal-Madeira » Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:39 am

This offer by the Yankees is low which tells me they are ready to jettison DJ and make a play for Francisco Lindor. Lindor would take over shortstop, Gleyber Torres would move back to second base, the Yankees defense up the middle would improve considerably, and they'd be able to stay below the luxury tax threshhold. I'm not crazy about the Yankees top ten prospects but they always mabnage to get their prospects overrated.... remember Montero??

Of course this makes DJ LaMahueu a free agent, one who can play every position in the infield, one who is an excellent lead off hitter, one who is 36 and looking for a 100 million....for four years....so I am adding him to the mix for the M's as an alternate to DiDi Gregorious who would also give us a solid hitter in the linup as a veteran anchor more elfective than Seager..... note this is only if the M's can or would consider trading off Seager for prospects to open up a spot for Ty France and other prospects to develop...

Just an idea, I like this an alternative even better than DiDi..... don't mind the overpay .... increases our versatility, speed, and contact hitting..;and chances for a playoff spot in 2021...and he a realistic target which Lindor is not...

Not saying we have to pay 100 million , maybe 72 for three but even at 100/4 years it's probably going to be a smaller overpay than the 26 million for Evan White...unless White surprises the world by dropping his strikeout rate below 25%. Just my opinion....

DJ has benefitted from hitting in Colorado and New York.

His career numbers are pretty brutal away from the hitters home parks. Sub-.700 OPS for his career in AWAY games.

He's a guy I'd be wary of huge production dropoffs if he doesn't have a friendly home field.

Just a remember, the QO is a standard off of $18.9M determined by the league not by teams so it is neither high nor low relative to the Yankees. Just means they were willing to pay him that for a year and now they are eligible for draft pick comp if and when he is signs with another team.

He might regret not taking that QO.....

Crazy that players would reject that in a year during Covid when teams will be reluctant to spend.
The poster formerly known as Kingfelixk. With a new forum comes a new boardname. Julio is my guy, plus we share a birthday, so that's Culiooooo

Totally agree. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth as they say. Way to many red flags to give him a multi year deal with an AAV close to that.

He is still supposed to end up in NY, that he turned down the qualifier doesn't mean they don't work out a deal

Instead of the $18.9M QO the Yankees should offer him 2 years at $9.5M per year since he only hits well at home.
