Its actually great news because the guy that is responsible for making payroll decisions AND is irritated by a $75k expense in a business that typically generates hundreds of million of dollars in revenue is going to get fired.

Hopefully they will replace him with someone that is less penny wise and pound foolish.

I watched and actually didn't see anything wrong.

Seager IS overpaid. We all know it.

And why pay an interpreter for a non-player that wanted to come back. The insulting part may have been that his English suddenly got better. But, the same could probably have been said of Ichiro. Was his English good enough by the end to do his own interviews too? Probably.. But he was worth it to them.

The way he said Julio's English is not tremendous didn't seem like a dig. Is it? I haven't watched him talk.

What did you guys actually find offensive?

Julio just turned 20 yo and has his own talk show which he conducts in English. He obviously has an accent but his English is as close to perfect as you can possibly expect from someone that has only likely been speaking it a few years.

Even if he couldn't speak English like 90% of Latin prospects, why would you even mention it. People are saying its racist, I guess you could call it that since everything is racist these days. I will just call it idiotic to say something negative and petty and INACCURATE about your top prospect.

He just made a bunch of unforced errors that in this environment will cost him his job.

There didn’t seem to be any real observable stench..... Just a guy that possibly says to much about sensitive issues.

Besides Mariners fans, a quick list of people offended/insulted in Mather's video:

Kelenic
Julio
Marco
Evan White
Seager
Iwakuma
Japanese players
Latin players
Taijuan
Pax
Luis Torrens
MLBPA
Everrett Memorial Stadium
This is so over the top. How was Kelenic insulted? And why should the Mariners have to pay $75k for interpreters. Let the Japanese (or whoever) players pay for the interpreters. Or better yet, let the media fuck-heads who are so desperate for a quote provide the interpreters.

Yeah it was like stuff you would tell trusted friends over a beer not over a video conference to a bunch of people you don't even know. Either he never dreamed it would go public or he didn't think it was inappropriate to widely share inside information. Both or mind number blunders.

I would think that Kelenic assumed his refusing the contract would not be made public. Also this but not a big deal.
KM: Julio Rodríguez has got a personality bigger than all of you combined. He is loud, his English is not tremendous. But he and Kelenic are very good friends. He’s a year behind Kelenic, he probably...won’t be here till 2022 or 2023. Fantastic kid. We’re really big on social media, he loves to get out in front, he loves the Mariners, and between him and Kelenic, we think we’ve got an outfield that will be as good as any in baseball for the next six years. He’s the real deal. He’s ranked higher than Kelenic, which..as I said, Kelenic doesn’t lack for confidence. Kelenic is not happy that he’s the fifth highest prospect on Baseball America, and Rodríguez is the fourth highest prospect. It’s little things like that bother Kelenic.
If we had won the WS last season and didn't have a 20 year playoff drought and Mather didn't face sex harassment charges a few years ago it and it wasn't liberal woke Seattle he would probably get away with it.

Him saying he doesn't want employees using the parking garage cause it would cost him money, but then saying it's sad how unsafe it is for his employees to walk 5 blocks away. It's clear Mather is a POS
