I haven't had time to hear all his remarks, so what specifically were the racist comments he made? I assume it was more than saying Julio's english is "not tremendous" and expressing displeasure at being expected to provide interpreters for Japanese players. And if that was it, why wouldn't one assume that the motivation (or aspect of character) behind those remarks was any different than for the supposed insults of Kelenic and Seager?bpj wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 3:58 amThis sounds about rightBil522 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 3:43 amYou are right.... more than racist his comments are utterly idiotic and put the organization in a very bad light. Probably too late for Kevin Mather's damage control:

Haven't bothered to listen, gonna guess his comments sound condenscending which can be Interpreted that waySibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:12 amI haven't had time to hear all his remarks, so what specifically were the racist comments he made? The Mariners are a poor baseball organization, they lack top, experienced baseball executives in many areas, their draft strategy is substandard, their broadcasters ignorant and humiliating, their sportswriters lazy, insulting, and mediocre in baseball knowledge or coverage, their executives are often convinced that they are on the cutting fedge of baseball, but moves like hiring Dr. Leona Martin, or signing Jose Vidro for a dh, or watching their franchise hall of famer quit in mid season and drive out of town, or watching a manager like Mike Hargrove resign during a seven game win streak and drive out of town show that the M's executives may have plenteous hubris but not necessarily a clue about how good organizations conduct business, treat players or fans..... Fuck 'em..... too much embarrassment and all this combined with the continual ridicule and humiliation heaped upon people like me in public out of town who admit to being Mariner fans.... It's a cross to bear.... I just keep hoping someday, somehow.... some people will arrive and take this fetid turd of an organization out of the shithole and nurture a thriving organization....

Wonder how many new CEO's of a baseball organization would embrace a GM purposely using a 6 man rotation.

I was agreeing with his comments being idiotic. No reason to have diarrhea mouth about players in your org, or that you're trying to bring in.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:12 amI haven't had time to hear all his remarks, so what specifically were the racist comments he made? New ownership willing to invest seems to be what we need.

Sure, but condescension in regard to white players is being a jerk, but in regard to others is racism?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:45 amHaven't bothered to listen, gonna guess his comments sound condenscending which can be Interpreted that waySibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:12 amI haven't had time to hear all his remarks, so what specifically were the racist comments he made? I watched the entire video. Mather came across to me as candid and forthright, although i could see why some might regard him as arrogant and condescending at times. I'm still trying to figure out how people can get inside his head to be able to conclude that his remark about Julio's english not being tremendous was motivated by a belief that brown people are inferior. Considering it came in between saying that Julio has a bigger personality than all the people in the video conference combined and and that he is a great guy, it just doesn't add up that he meant it to be denigrating in any way.
But logic and benefit of the doubt, where the doubt is founded in the hysteria of our times, aren't likely to have much weight here.

Have to agree, the overall message and theme of what he was saying don't necessarily reflect the soundbitesSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 5:50 amSure, but condescension in regard to white players is being a jerk, but in regard to others is racism?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:45 amHaven't bothered to listen, gonna guess his comments sound condenscending which can be Interpreted that waySibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:12 am

I didn't have a problem with the Julio statement because I watched the ENTIRE video in context. People reading only the highlights will have a misguided judgement about this part of the converstaion.
On that note, I was extremely upset and annoyed about the statements towards Kyle Seager and the contract handling of Jarred Kelenic. What a disgrace to the Seager's. Mather is the OVERPAID person here and should not be back this season. And if I were Kelenic it breaks my heart to say the M's lost points on this one when it comes time to sign a contract, unless the FO can turn this around immediately by getting rid of this individual that has become a dark plague on baseball.
