I didn't have a problem with the Julio statement because I watched the ENTIRE video in context. People reading only the highlights will have a misguided judgement about this part of the converstaion.

On that note, I was extremely upset and annoyed about the statements towards Kyle Seager and the contract handling of Jarred Kelenic. What a disgrace to the Seager's. Mather is the OVERPAID person here and should not be back this season. And if I were Kelenic it breaks my heart to say the M's lost points on this one when it comes time to sign a contract, unless the FO can turn this around immediately by getting rid of this individual that has become a dark plague on baseball.

How is he a plague to baseball?

Also perhaps you missed the part when he said there was a good chance Kelenic made the right decision.

It was kind of sad seeing Seagers wife's comment. Girl just wanted to sign a little extension and settle in to their home until Kyle retires.

He comes across as elitist, entitled and culturally insensitive, and that’s an indefensible combination, and there is no room for those types of personalities in management, especially this day and age.

Yeah, that upset me too. I'm a huge Kyle Seager fan, and I believe he's more than played up to his entire contracts worth, on and off the field for this organization. He's the epitome of a stand up guy and what all players should try and emulate.

Has Seager been worth $14.3 mil per year over the past 6 years? I realize he's had a resurgence since losing weight and returning from injury in 2019, but if i recall he had some fairly pedestrian seasons prior to that.

He's definitely overpaid in relation to what they would need to pay to fill his vacancy. I think that's probably where a CEO's coming from in making that statement.

Didn't really seem personal to me, just an observation.

More of his verbal diarrhea.

As far as Kelenic goes, I didn't miss any of it. I've watched the entire video. The whole conversation in its totality is what pisses me off. That information should never have left his lips to begin with. Its unexcusable and could wind up hurting this organization in years to come.

These issues may not seem like a big deal to some of you and that is fine. We are all entitled to our own opinions. But to say that this shouldn't or won't be a big deal moving forward with the organization is naive. This is bound to ruffle many feathers, of which we are only beginning to witness. I'm scared to see what the trickle down affect will look like if affirmative action isn't taken towards KM.

You mean like when he was talking about all the improvements with the training complexes in latin america and how far they go to make sure the players are prepared to live in the U.S.? I don't recall him saying that was a bad thing or a waste of money.

Not even close to my meaning. I'm talking about the clincher that is Mather’s highly inappropriate attitude regarding the Mariners’ foreign players.

That will do irreparable harm in its own right to a team that has already lost the faith of its fan base — deservedly so — and now faces a potentially rebellious squad. That's what I mean.

Our organization likes to boast about the great culture they’ve built in here. However, these remarks by Mather to the Rotary Club two weeks ago reflect an ailing culture at the very top.
