I was just thinking that the Padres pitcher had thrown a lot of pitches in the 9th inning so the Padres would have been totally justified calling the game with 2 outs and the bases loaded and Julio in the on deck circle. That would have been a shame.

He hits better to the opposite field than his dad...

This joke would have been better in 2019
lol First of all, what was Mom doing with the horrid camera angle. Secondly he hit lefty just like his pops and pulled it like 2018 Seager. :)

Dude on twitter arguing with me thinking I am crazy for expecting them to play full baseball games instead of 5 or 7 innings and not even require 3 outs in an inning. 37 pitchers in camp. He says not all 37 are available for every game. I guess I am old enough to remember when you needed significantly less than 37 pitchers to get through a game.
I think last year had a lot to do with this year's Spring Training games. While I'm not opposed to 7 inning exhibition games, I am 110% opposed to 7 inning double headers in a pro MLB setting.
I agree maintaining the sanctity of the regular season games is paramount but it is infinitely more challenging to get through 18 innings with only 7-8 pitchers available than get through 9 innings with ~25 pitchers. Thankfully we won't have to worry about 7 inning games this season barring something crazy.

Maybe I shouldn't invest $6k to go to Spring training for 4 days. lol
You go to Spring training to be in Arizona in March, and see some baseball. If the game goes 8 innings or 9 it shouldn't be the deal breaker for whether its worth it or not.

I'll be there next year, and I'll be lucky if I get to stay 9 innings to any game with my kids LOL.
I'll be looking for you. I'll be staying with my wife and her gf's from college. ;)
Bring them over to the crib (renting the same place next year most likely) and we shall have a big hot tub party tequila party.

I still don't understand why the Padres' half of the first inning was ended before the Mariners got the third out. Could someone explain that?
Because Marco had reached his pitch limit for the inning. So even though he pitched two innings I guess they didn't want him to too many in each inning. I know, it is getting to the point where they are going to start issuing pitchers diaper powder.

didn't want Marco pitching 40 pitches in his first competitive inning of the year.

I get a total pitch count but have never seen a pitch count by inning. He came out and pitched a full inning in the second.

It's about ramping up for the season. They wanted him to have so many pitched, and to have an inning rest between them. Lots of this will happen in the first week of Spring training. Not a big deal imo. There are people with much more expertise than us that are responsible for their training and seasoning.

I am just glad Markel didn't have a pitch count in the bottom of the 9th. He faced 6 batters with 2 Ks, 2 walks, a HBP and a base hit. Guessing he threw about 25-30 pitches. They probably should have called the game just before Julio hit. I hope he is ok.
