So then you are trading Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson...or to bring it home David Arias for Dave Hollins. No point in dumping high quality minor leaguers to get solid, albeit unspectacular, players.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 10:33 pmAgain, the flaw in their bullshit philosophy. They aren't available because too many teams are still in the hunt at the deadline. But, let's do jack shit every off season and then complain about how we wanted to make moves at the deadline, but couldn't.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 9:50 pmThat's pretty much the point. There aren't any impact bats availableMichael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 4:48 pmI guess I don't get this. Was it some kind of Herculean effort to build the Farm back up? Cal has been a Star, and Julio is serviceable....but what home grown position players do you guys watch play in a Mariner uniform and think "thank God we didn't trade that guy for a short term rental and a playoff run". Cal and Julio were up by the time we were supposed to be done rebuilding. No one since has made an impact and we are still how many years from our last Division title?
One playoff appearance in a decade and a half, and we are still hoping they hold on to prospects because one day they might lead us to the last WC spot and a few road playoff games? I don't get it. If the impact bat they can add is good enough, trade anyone that isn't currently on the Major League roster, and even some that are.
I still stand by the fact that untouchable should be a real tough label to come by. If you can make this team better, and yes I agree, that person might not be available, but if? Then untouchable is a tough sell for me.

Yep, better to go to the playoffs once in 25 years.
Re: Trade Deadline untouchable prospects
For me the reality of making trades this year is there is not a good bargain the be had with all the buyers and very few sellers.
Then there is the fact that this roster is very flawed and will take much more than one bat to fix it.
Instead I would like to see them clear out the dead wood this winter and get rid of all those useless salaries that we can. For God's sake please stop paying for washed up players whose careers die in TMobile Park.
Then we should hire the entire front office of the Tampa Bay Rays and let them show us how to operate a big league team.
This team will need a miracle to do anything beyond one playoff series and out, it's not worth selling the farm to fix this mess.

Again, this is every year, and the biggest reason I feel their philosophy is nothing more than a middle finger to the fan base. They realize this, and know that it is easy to make excuses for why they couldn't make moves at the deadline. Fix the fucking team in the off season, for Christ Sakes!
Wash, rinse, repeat. Again, add bats BEFORE the season is over and BEFORE you are basically out of the division race and praying for the last WC spot.
Could not agree more.
