What head scratching move? I said I'm hoping Cole Young develops the power his analytics might indicate. Terms of Dipoto's head scratching moves, they remind me how JS can make head scratching moves
You read the same posts in here. Are you fucking kidding me? His bonehead moves have been discussed over and over in here. You are a frustrating little man, you know that? You said this isn't about Dipoto, the entire last decade has been about Dipoto.
That's analogous to complaining about the few stocks that lost value in an investment portfolio that in the aggregate significantly outperformed the S&P 500 over five years.

In the five-plus years since the start of the 2021 season, the Mariners have the third-best cumulative regular-season record in the American League (seventh-best overall). Even counting Jerry Dipoto's early rebuilding seasons, the Mariners have a 794-731 record in the 10 years since Dipoto's arrival (sixth in the AL; 11th in MLB). In the previous 10 seasons, the Mariners has the second-worst cumulative regular-season record in baseball, ahead of only the Houston Astros:

Credit? I think that's how it works. I think they held on to Young because his analytics pointed to power. Be interesting if he's got some, hope so
Hope in one hand and shit in the other....let me know which one fills up first.
THIS Donn, Jesus H. Christ. You credit Dipoto because you HOPE he is right about Cole Young developing power. That has been my entire point. Do you do this confused bullshit old man act on purpose, or is it who you are?

And in three of those years they missed the playoffs.

I didn't use the word credit, that was bpj. The question mark means I was disagreeing. It's not about credit or hoping, it's not about what dipoto has to say, it's simply studying the analytics. That's what I'm saying, it will be interesting if the analytics hold up. Again, I think the Dbacks were as interested in the analytics as the mariners

Last season Young was somewhat disappointing, and that was after not showing a great deal of power in the minors.
He posted a .607 OPS (81 wRC+) in 257 plate appearances. His playing time evaporated as the season got late and outcomes mattered more. He didn’t play in the postseason
But there was that. A single event in a mediocre season.
Young hit a middle-middle fastball from Kumar Rocker 456 feet into the second deck at T-Mobile Park. It was the longest home run hit at T-Mobile Park in 2025 and one of the 10 longest in Seattle in the Statcast Era.

Young hit the ball 114.1 mph, which places him in the top 10% by max velocity. That’s crucial. As Davy Andrews pointed out for Fangraphs (in a post about a young Victor Robles), rookie max exit velocity is one of the strongest predictors of future performance
And now you have him doing that
As of early 2026, Mariners prospect Cole Young has demonstrated impressive exit velocities, including a notable 108.9 mph home run during spring training. In 2026 Cactus League play, he has shown consistent hard contact, with other home runs recorded at 108 mph, 99 mph, and 98.6 mph, showing significant power for his frame
I just am finding it interesting. If I'm giving anybody credit I guess it be Davy Andrews who I don't know a thing about
