I just don't think we need to be fucking around trying to buy low or go after guys because they were born within 50 miles of our ballpark. If he is the third best FA we sign, then fine but there is a reason he had a shitty year and there is a good chance that reason still exists in 2022.
I'm not too excited about Conforto either. You just wonder what's going on with that bat.
Carlos Correa is going to get an 8 to 10 year contract around $300 million. He has a career OPS+ of 127. He had a .709 OPS in 2020 and a .728 OPS in 2018. Yet everyone here wants him.
Conforto has a career OPS+ of 124. He had a .729 OPS in 2021 and a .725 OPS in 2015. He's going to get a prove-it deal and people are "meh" on him.
Thing is, they're basically worth the exact same as a hitter, Correa just hit far better in a contract year while Conforto had a down year at an inopportune time.
If signing Conforto and trading someone like Lewis in a package for JRam is the move, you could do WAY worse.
The thing I like about Conforto is he is an OBP maniac in his best years - .384 in 2017 and .412 in 2020. Even when he's had a rough go he's typically around .340. His .344 OBP in 2021 would have put him 2nd on the Mariners for players who played at least 100 games- that's how sad our offense was
