he is going to decide to trade prospects he doesn't want to trade for a player that plays a position he already has filled...makes sense to me
Exactly, and then have to pour a shit ton of money into them when they become a free agent, instead when you have a cheaper option in Ty France who is just as effective and will cost you a lot less. Focus those dollars you'd need to invest into Matt Olson towards Marcus Semien, Michael Conforto, Mark Canha, and Seiya Suzuki. Fill the holes on your team first and keep the prospects in our system.

Guessing why JD hasn't made any deals yet is because he is in the midst of the 5 stages of grief over teams not willing to trade good players for our 15-25 prospects. Perhaps once he completes the process he will begrudgingly start including 11-14 prospects.

He might have to dip into his core prospects if he wants to land Luis Castillo from the Reds.

Castillo was 8-16 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Pretty meh. Maybe that's why JD is interested.

yeah, that box is checked, they need a centerfielder, a second baseman, or 3rd. Dipoto has a success with France at first, frankly one of his few real successes, why would he mess with that? And don't tell me he could move France to another position, don't mess with success

I think its his Post All Star performance that Dipoto is more interested in.

he also put up nearly 4 bWAR i believe, found that interesting in fact, his career win losses is below .500 but his WAR is pretty good

I could see the M's going hard after Canha to help in the outfield and spell days for France at 1B every once in awhile. But Canha's a right handed hitter.

He wouldn't cost us a Top 5 prospect. Maybe even barely a Top 10 to acquire.
