If we can't come up with a decent pitching staff out of all of those names, the curse can never be denied again.

How about Julio with 2 walks last night. Most 18 yo as hot as he is would be swinging at everything. He is a unique talent.
We have no real monster pitchers in the system.... but a lot of role players and mid rotation potential. From Logan Gilbert to Joey Gerber, lots of major league potential. Still believe the M's should focus on high school position players to build the system..... our top rated players... Kellenic, Rodriguez, Marte, and solid prospects like Rizzo and Cowan came to us at 16 to 18 years old. ... Houston's lineup comes primarily from getting position players through the draft.... their rotation for the play offs.... Verlander, Cole, Grienke.... did not come through the draft....rather investment on proven players.... Money spent on procuring elite position players is debatable.... ie... Cano, Harper, Machado...? I say load your system with position players through the top rounds in your draft.... follow the minor league system and major league system for pitchers.... ... I think that would be the best strategy moving forward
Rodriguez and Marte were both international signings. Can't compare them to hs draftees. Mariners weren't in position to draft Kelenic, they got lucky to trade for him. Add fat as Cowan and Rizzo, I think Fraley, Lewis, Walton, Shenton are all better prospects and all were college position players.

Pick the player you think has the best chance to make an mlb impact, period. Whether position player or pitcher, college or HS

Looks like there are two Jordan Cowans. I prefer the one with the long hair vs. the one with the ~.650 OPS in AA and 10 career HRs in over 2k PAs.

you know I mention Jordan, not because he's any high prospect, a 37th round high school pick, but because, despite a year of injuries, he's developing nicely, he's a local kid we watched in Kent/Auburn and because he has a legitimate chance to play in the majors.

We don't talk about the pitching in the California League, but it is noteworthy that the Modesto Nuts pitching roster has broken the all time strikeout total record for the California League formerly held by the old Bakersfield Dodgers. So the Nuts have had some strikeout arms this year...

Julio Rodriguez already has a pair of doubles and three RBIs tonight and we are just in the third inning. The second double was an absolute violent scorcher against the wall....109 mph velocity leaving his bat.

We talked about their pitching sometime around mid-July. They went through about 7-8 games where their starters didn't allow a single run. Murfee, Gilbert, Newsome, McKinney, and 1 other had an awesome stretch. It was around the same time that Raleigh started destroying that league. Pitching has been good at every level other than AAA and DSL this year.

Plus next year's draft will add a few more.

Julio only had a single and 2 walks. OPS was only .933 with that. And no RBI. He's slumping a bit.
Hopefully he snaps out of it tonight! Maybe Vogey can give him tips on avoiding prolonged slumps.
Looks like he worked his way through the slump. Already with 2 doubles and 3 RBI in first 2 AB. Also scored a run. He has accounted for all 4 runs so far tonight.

I know brother. Love the kid myself as he is a total gamer and plays the game right. I just wish he had the power to make it to the show.

And that's the same Cal league that used to be a hitters paradise when we got all excited about Vinny Catricala, Jabari Henry and Jordy Lara.

At least he's on the right team to still get a chance even without any power. Maybe we can stash him at 1B or LF.

Definitely plenty of bright spots in the minor leagues.

Dipoto should try and fill all vacant spots with more expensive 1 year vets to flip by July when the young kids can come back up for good.
