what is wrong with a player that can both hit and play defense?

Nothing. It's just that up until now the guys haven't brought the hit part with them, just the glove.

The bat part isnt optional, its a requirement, then the defense can be plus value.

I don't know who is claiming bats are optional, but you do need to allow players to develop, that is why they call it player development

Yeah, so let's give 'em all the standard 2000 plate appearances the Mariners hand out.

Theres nothing to develop with guys like Mallex, Moore and Bishop. Theyre not MLB quality starting players. How much time do they want to decide on the UTIL and 4th OF?

He obviously needs to finish strong or we are back to square 1. Also I think his new body style might mitigate age related decline concerns.
I caught your exchange with Divish on Twitter.....Divish is patently wrong imo, the odd thing about Divish is he isn't even a baseball fan by his own admission and for the most part seems like a Benzedrine Puff-Adder every-time someone engages him and asks a tricky question yet he fawns all over management like they can do no wrong.

If Seager finishes strong works hard in the off season and starts hot and we eat enough salary we will be able to shift him for a prospect or two. Looking at his numbers this doesn't look like a fluke season for him and I posted his heat-map the other day and because he has his second highest BB% ever he is making pitchers throw it more over the middle. His spray chart is also better which will eventually second guess the shifts if he keeps that up, it will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next 13 months.

Edit:One other point no one seems to be thinking about is that the poison pill clause can be waived if Seager so desires so if a contender was interested and provided Seager is receptive to waiving it it could be done.

Yes Divish can definitely be an abrasive tool. I guessing being single and living in Tacoma all these years can do that to a guy. Interesting point on waiving the poison pill. He just might do that if he keeps hitting and wants to play in the playoffs.

I do think a trade in the offseason is especially unlikely. Maybe if he plays like this the first half of next season as well, but at that point they may choose to keep him. Ive already stated my opinion on the trade. I prefer to keep him and his stellar defense ar 3B to help our young pitchers.

I didn't think his take was that wrong. Teams need to see him carry this over into next season before committing 30 million plus to him as well as giving up prospects.
