M's get Wong for Winker and Toro!!
Re: M's get Wong for Winker and Toro!!
Need a minimum of 1 more bat, Id prefer 2. Wong doesn't raise the ceiling of the team much, but probably raises the floor a bit. Hopefully he isn't Frazier 2.0.

Agreed, Wong is just the, "We didn't spend $30M to fill one need, so we have more payroll to fill the other holes."
If they sat on their hands now it would be foolish. I don't think they have any intentions of doing so.
They said at the outset they saw holes at 2B, two OF spots and even mentioned the rotation, and now they also cleared space at DH.
They've done a great job so far since last trade deadline imo.
Castillo, Hernandez and Wong isn't exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Fuck yeah that is an awesome platoon.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:34 pmIt's a platoon addition. They're likely going to roll with Moore against lefties and Wong against righties.TraderGary wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:28 pmBest part of this trade is getting rid of Winker and Toro. Not seeing either of them in an M's uniform ever again is a win in itself. That said, I don't see how acquiring Wong with his career .732 OPS (which will only go lower as he ages and playing in T-Mobile) helps to close the gap with Houston in any way. He's a slight upgrade from Frazier, but not in a significant way.
He's the type of player a team like KC or the A's with very little resources ($) would trade for. I've very lukewarm on this deal. How does a middle infield of Crawford and Wong compete with a middle infield of Pena and Altuve.
Sorry to be a downer, but this just doesn't excite me in the least, other than the addition by subtraction aspect of getting rid of the two black holes and a clubhouse cancer in Winker and Toro. I think by midseason, everyone here is going to be complaining about Wong the same as we were about Frazier. I really hope he proves me wrong and makes me eat crow.
Wong had a .845 OPS against righties in 125 games last season. He had a .441 OPS against lefties.

With Trammell and Haggerty ahead of him, I don't even see how Kelenic should be in the discussion to make the roster.

It sure is. Don't know that I've ever seen a platoon split as wide as that. He's an automatic out against LH.Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 11:02 pmDamn, that's drastic!Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:34 pm

Does anyone have a theory why these splits vary so much from year to year? I'm thinking about Winker also.
