Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Other than trading him, getting the rightie seems a pretty good plan to me. Between that and giving at bats to Trammell and others possibly I could see JK getting maybe, 40% of the at bats.. I don't think it's going to be mindlessly running him out there. If Trammell is out hitting him it's going to be hard not giving him more at bats
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
If they are willing to have the other catcher DH every game they aren't catching then we might not need a DH. But guessing they will want to give them full days off and not risk losing the DH if a the current catcher gets injured but actually that won't be a concern if Hummel is on the roster.bpj wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 8:50 amYeah, the market's running on fumes.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:15 amI just looked it up on MLBTR's top 50 FAs
th top 23 have all signed #24 Eovaldi is still out there
Profar
Chaffin
Segura
Wacha
Conforto
Myers
Longoria
There are some decent players not "needle movers but decent contributers that could be picked up still. Conforto and Myers
Honestly I don't hate our current roster unless they're penciling in Kelenic. It's not going to challenge the Astros for the division, but they'll be competitive for a wild card again.
Won't be easy because other teams actually improved.
Julio
France
Suarez
Hernandez
Raleigh
Murphy DH
Wong
Haggerty
Crawford
Bench: Trammell/Moore/Hummell
It's really just talking about Kelenic being in the game that's a problem imo. If we have to choose between a LF or a DH- get a LF. I'll take the gamble on Murphy at DH, at least he has actually shown some success
If Sam and Moore are the RH side of the LF platoon then we are down to worrying about LH side which even if they go with JK I assume a very short leash like Tax day if he isn't hitting again.

18 games from OD to Tax day on Apr 18th. JK will probably start a dozen of them and be about 8 for 50 for a .160 average and they will have to burn his last option, he will be worthless in a trade and it will be all over but the crying...

Yep they are holding out for Kirby or Gilbert. Can the Yankees top and offer of Hancock, Miller, Brash, JK and a draft pick?

Bryan Reynolds is five months younger than Jesse Winker was last offseason when the Mariners traded for Winker coming off a 2021 season of 2.9 fWAR and 145 wRC+ in 110 games.
Reynolds is coming off a 2022 season of 2.9 fWAR and 125 wRC+ in 145 games.
There is no guarantee that Reynolds can make a successful transition from the NL Central to Seattle.
Then again, there are no guarantees in any move ... or non-move.
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
If the division held only the Astros and the M's, then there may be a possibility of making the playoffs. But both the Angels and Rangers are improved and finishing second in the division is not a foregone conclusion. Nor is the playoffs. We won't win as many games v. the Rangers or Angels as we did last year.
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
I read stuff about how Winker’s work ethic fell off a cliff after he made it as an all star. That, and his apparently toxic personality led to struggles in Seattle. Don’t work? Don’t get better. Asshole in the clubhouse? No one wants to be with you.harmony wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:54 pmBryan Reynolds is five months younger than Jesse Winker was last offseason when the Mariners traded for Winker coming off a 2021 season of 2.9 fWAR and 145 wRC+ in 110 games.

Don’t know how much validity there is to any of that, nor do I know much about Reynolds’ work ethic, but he might thrive in Seattle if he tries. Equally, Winker could get his shit together and be an all star again next season.

No indication that BR is a POS like Winker is though.harmony wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:54 pmBryan Reynolds is five months younger than Jesse Winker was last offseason when the Mariners traded for Winker coming off a 2021 season of 2.9 fWAR and 145 wRC+ in 110 games.

Perhaps the good and bad of Jesse Winker have been exaggerated:D-train wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 5:29 pmNo indication that BR is a POS like Winker is though.harmony wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:54 pmBryan Reynolds is five months younger than Jesse Winker was last offseason when the Mariners traded for Winker coming off a 2021 season of 2.9 fWAR and 145 wRC+ in 110 games.

Regardless Winker's trade to Milwaukee was a good one for the Mariners.
