Re: Reynolds requests a trade
You need to improve wherever you can & Reynolds should make an immediate impact in our lineup. No excuses here. Get it done.
Re: Reynolds requests a trade
Would anyone trade five years of righthander Logan Gilbert for three years of outfielder Bryan Reynolds if the Mariners could sign Robbie Ray’s buddy, righthander Zack Greinke, as a bridge to starter prospects Emerson Hancock, Taylor Dollard, Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo and Matt Brash?

Gilbert put up more WAR than Reynolds last season, bWAR. That would seem like an overpay to me

As long as they include David Bednar, yep.harmony wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 4:19 amWould anyone trade five years of righthander Logan Gilbert for three years of outfielder Bryan Reynolds if the Mariners could sign Robbie Ray’s buddy, righthander Zack Greinke, as a bridge to starter prospects Emerson Hancock, Taylor Dollard, Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo and Matt Brash?

I'd skip Greinke at this point and probably just keep Flexen until Brash or Hancock or whichever kid is ready to take the fifth spot.
Starting pitching is our biggest area of depth, and we need to put some runs across the plate.
Reynolds+Bednar have totaled 11.7 fWAR in 2021 and 2022, with 7 years of control remaining between the two of them.
Re: Reynolds requests a trade
The Mariners would certainly be trading high on Logan Gilbert and low on Bryan Reynolds.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 4:36 amGilbert put up more WAR than Reynolds last season, bWAR. That would seem like an overpay to me
Steamer projects 2023 WAR of 2.2 for Gilbert and 4.0 for Reynolds. The Pirates would likely reject a one-for-one swap and instead would prefer to spread the risk over several players.
The trade would probably be unpopular in the Mariner clubhouse given the number of teammates who attended Gilbert’s wedding this offseason.
Re: Reynolds requests a trade
I can't imagine they would trade Gilbert. There are still a couple of right-handed bats out there that they can bring in to protect JK/TayTram/CM vs. lefties. And they still have Flex and Marco in hand that they can use as trade chips if they don't want to pay for even the cheapest of free agents.

Yeah, seems like a long shot, and really only make sense if JK was heading out

I have a dream that one day I live in a nation in which my favorite baseball team will have the will to employ hitters that can stand on their own two feet, that won't need protection from the evils of LH pitching and won't need to be rested every few days in the DH spot after standing in the outfield 90 minutes a night.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 6:55 amI can't imagine they would trade Gilbert. Baltimore and St. Louis have major logjams of position players on their rosters. Somethings gotta give.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 12:03 pmI have a dream that one day I live in a nation in which my favorite baseball team will have the will to employ hitters that can stand on their own two feet, that won't need protection from the evils of LH pitching and won't need to be rested every few days in the DH spot after standing in the outfield 90 minutes a night.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 6:55 amI can't imagine they would trade Gilbert.
