Injuries are fact of life in terms of the NFL, every team deals with them. It isn't so much the injuries it's the strategy to deal with them. McDonald focuses on players that can be moved around to mitigate injuries, let's see how it works. Hope injuries dont become an excuse, every team has to deal with them.

Speaking of reserves, remember George Blanda. Those were the days
In the AFC title game against the Baltimore Colts, Blanda again relieved an injured Lamonica, completing 17 of 32 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns while also kicking a 48-yard field goal and two extra points, keeping the Raiders in the game until the final quarter, when he was intercepted twice. Aged 43, he became the oldest quarterback ever to play in a championship game, and was one of the few remaining straight-ahead kickers in the NFL.

Was that back in the days when the Raiders all had "stickum" all over them? I loved those days.

As a straight-ahead kicker you have to be super accurate with how precisely your square-tipped shoe makes contact with the ball, but you could impart greater force and hence achieve greater distance on the attempt.

This is an interesting game coming up, there's pressure on both teams

Sundays matchup
"It's a lot of pressure," defensive end Nick Bosa said Tuesday. "It's not a must-win because technically your season's over if it's a must-win, but it definitely feels like it. We're treating it that way."
Do the Seahawks respond?

Do you mean like say some equally cliche BS? They probably already have. It wouldn't mean anything.
This is a heart test. Which team can get it done. We won't know until the game.

No, I mean by showing up ready to play

It's been an entertaining season so far
Forty-seven games this season have been decided by seven or fewer points. That's the most through the first five weeks of a season in NFL history

Brooke responding to McDonald's criticism of the run defense. I felt that was the problem under Pete, gap discipline. Just focusing on your own responsibility. Not to get into another PFF debate but I think gap discipline is so important but it can't be judged by PFF
The second level run fits are falling short,” Macdonald told local media earlier this week.

That would presumably include starting off-ball linebacker Jerome Baker, who had 14 tackles and one sack versus the Giants. Baker met with the media following Tuesday's practice session. Corbin Smith asked the veteran linebacker about Macdonald's criticism of the run fits.

"I think we're all just trying to make the play," Baker said. "We kind of got out of position sometimes. I think that's the main thing. The intent is there, but we all gotta do our one job, and that's how our defense plays. If I do my job and T [Dodson] does his job, Hank does his job, and Leo does his job, we'd be a great defense. We all just gotta do our job, and we'll be fine."

Tackling a strong runner is not an easy thing to do. Sure, we can question why a guy doesn't make a tackle (which is easy to do from the comfort of your sofa), but these runners are skilled at what they do. Even though a person thinks they can tell the difference between shitty tackling and solid running, it's not always possible. I would defer to the expert in Macdonald.

Yeah, its more than just installing a new defense, players have to grasp it and more importantly trust it, trust the guy next to him, understand their responsibily and the guy next to them. Never expected it to be easy.

And the lack of run plays, on one level its clearly wrong but it continues to happen. Wasnt it the complaint with pete?

Mcdonald on if Geno changing calls
“There is some (of the QB) getting in and out of runs. But to the extent of how much we’re doing it, (I’ll) just kind of leave that in-house,” the 37-year-old head coach said Monday.

“But it’s also, we all know we need to run the ball more. I mean, everybody knows that. Our opponents know that.

“Our players in our locker room know that. Grubb knows that. Our coaches do. I do.”
And yet they continue to not run the ball enough

Kinda an interesting column from Bell
