Why would the Cubs do it?

Because there is an article that they will move either Suzuki or Bellinger. I suppose they have younger cheaper options at the positions that these two play OF, and 1B. And both of them are upper level salaries that could be re-invested elsewhere.

Woo's value is 52.4M but what if it was a three way with the White Sox.

What is in it for the White Sox? They get the M's #1 prospect in a stacked system. They also get what was considered either #1 or #2 at a position that is hard to develop and has some special Craig Biggio like unique characteristics.

I doubt we could get all three I am thinking that they have a top prospect who can play 2B or 3B and so that is why they might part with one of Isaac P. or Nico H.

Make the deal for Suzuki and Nico, and then turn around and get Burger. Because fuck you Phili!

I saw that Willy would have been a good fit for us.

I like Tyler's bat. But they have their three starters plus Luke Raley is pretty good as an option. And, they still have not dumped Haniger.

The A's had already stated they planned to spend more this year, they only had about $62 million on the books and they were planning on spending about $100 million. It wasn't just that they were broke, they were trying to move the team and it just makes sense to add to the team while the stadium is being built to get the Las Vegas fans on their side.

I would be more mad about the Mariner's having "no money" to spend while being 16th in payroll while both the New York teams are looking to spend big while already having a payroll twice what the Mariner's current payroll is. Imagine what we could do if we could add another $150 million in payroll this year.

Given our pitching staff, even a 3rd of that would put us over the top. I'll never understand how the owners can't comprehend the fact that if they were just to spend a reasonable amount (by today's standards) to improve the offense, they would more than make up for it with additional attendance, merchandise sales, revenue from the playoff games, and additional tv and advertising revenues. And as a bonus, Stanton wouldn't be the most hated man in Seattle. But instead, they're openly choosing to waste a generational pitching staff for everyone to see.

I just looked up Stanton's age. He's 68. I honestly thought he was around 10 years older than that and was hoping he'd be ready to ride off into the sunset in the near future. But at 68 and making more money than he'll ever know what to do with, it looks like we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future. I'm 71 and in good health, but I seriously doubt I'll see the M's in the WS before I die.

I think they realize that investing in payroll will likely have a positive return but guessing that they think the ROI will be less than what they can get with their other investment opportunities outside of baseball. Not excusing it but I think it is a possible explanation. But if that is the case they should sell obviously.

That's an interesting point I hadn't considered. But then, why buy the team in the first place if their investments are better served elsewhere? It obviously wasn't about civic pride because they don't have any.
