On the perception versus the reality, here are the Mariners' park- and league-adjusted OPS+ and ERA+ over the past three seasons (with American League rank in parentheses);

2024: 103 OPS+ (6th), 106 ERA+ (7th)
2023: 108 OPS+ (4th), 106 ERA+ (7th)
2022: 106 OPS+ (4th), 104 ERA+ (6th)

Last season was a down year for Seattle hitting but these three-year stats reflect the impact of T-Mobile Park.

Alonso re-signs with the Mets. 2 years, $54 million.

Oh how much more fun it would be to have him at 1B for $27M than paying Garver and Haniger nearly $30M to waste space.
That's IT?!? We couldn't even be bothered to make an offer better than that for a guy who's virtually guaranteed (even in Seattle) to hit 30-40 home runs with an OPS of about .800? "Pfffffft, we'd rather have Donovan Solano and Jorge Polanco's corpse!"

The updated FanGraphs WAR projections now have the Mariners fifth in the American League, narrowly ahead of other teams on the [projected] postseason bubble:

And it was so dang easy to add a few key pieces. Burger is a 40 HR bat that you could have added for a couple of B prospects that were ranked 15-20 in the shitty Rangers system. FFS, he is pre-arb. No-brainer easy move.

He hit 29 last year and his max is 34. How is that a 40 HR bat for a RH hitter in T Mobile? Don't need to exaggerate to show he would have been a better option than Polanco.

Jake Burger's career OBP of .305 would almost certainly take a serious hit with Seattle. ZiPS currently projects Burger with a 2025 OPS of .295.

The average fWAR projection for Burger is 1.9 and the average for Polanco is $1.7.

If Burger has a better season John Stanton is likely going to ask Jerry why he didn't trade two meh prospects for him and save him about $6M.

When this offense inevitably struggles in April Jerry and Stanton better wear ear plugs to games.
