It's probably too soon for the Seahawks to consider benching Darnold, but Bleacher Report's Alex Kay thinks it could be a possibility if Seattle comes out slow in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"While there's still hope for better days after Seattle's defense kept a Christian McCaffrey-led backfield in check and recorded a pair of interceptions on Brock Purdy, this offense was concerningly bad," Kay wrote. "If this group comes out flat against the Pittsburgh Steelers next week, it will mark the beginning of the end for the Darnold era."
I have formed an opinion actually, sort of adding things up...You have JS trading off his veteran offensive pieces, as well as getting an extension. I mean there was all the talk about JS gambling, hot seat, all that was quickly put to rest with Jody's move. They brought in MM and he's been working on his defense. Now its Kubick and the offense, they seem committed with the entire staff and all that. But the deal is, its not going to be an overnight deal, and frankly they don't have the weapons. What they do have is a young roster and a ton of cap space coming up next season, as well as an interesting young qb on the roster. What I am getting at is I think this is basically a bit of a tank job. They would like to make the playoffs of course but its not like anybody's job is on the line if they don't. Jody made that clear, I think that's her in agreement with the strategy. I think they really are aiming a year or two down the road. JS's job now is to go find the offensive talent to compete on that side of the ball, and they need to decide on a qb
Good opinion Bruce.

Kupp's "effort" was pointed out. Everyone is just to busy blaming the defense to consider ripping into this dogshit offense that we were promised all off season would be better.

I'd kill to be Kubiak or Darnold right now. Totally suck ass at your job and make millions anyway? And everyone else is at fault. Sounds nice.
Blaming a showboat dipshit in Woolen for being, again, mentally and physically weak is not the same as
"blaming the defense and giving the offense a pass". Nobody here has said the offense was even above average yesterday.
You are making that up. That you can't get anyone else to completely agree with your yearly overreaction doesn't mean
they are fine with yesterday's offense. The defense, just like they did for a lot of last year, looked pretty good and
hopefully on the verge of being great. Nobody said the defense as a whole was or is bad. Just Woolen. Are you giving
Woolen a pass because the rest of the defense was pretty good? Woolen doesn't get a pass just because you are
losing your shit, again, about the offense. Woolen didn't just choke once, it was twice. Both times he could have
won made us a mortal lock to win the game, but instead he played like a fool. He does it all the time. I don't give
a shit what some daffy stat says. This is who he is. He needs gone.
Over reaction? Holy Shit. You are right, we should jsut wait and see why the OC and his boys they brought in to replace the guy that couldn't run an offense, had 88 yards passing and less than that rushing before the final drive of the fucking game. 3 for 10 on 3rd down, 22 minute time of possession, no balls on fourth and one to end the game. Nope, nothing to see here. It was still Grubb's fault. Over reaction? We played 1984 offense and lost a game the defense made two mistakes in. FUCKING TWO, by the same fucking guy. Kubiak made mistakes all fucking game long, Schneider has made mistakes for a decade and a half, all excusable. But in a game built for offense, when EVERY FUCKING TIME A DB GETS BEAT SOMEONE IN HERE SCREAMS AT HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO TURN AROUND. Well? He turned around, and we now all see why they don't fucking do that. SO? Still his fault.

Blaming the DB in today's day and age when you threw for 88 yards before the final drive is fucking ludicrous. The Niners should have been making desperation heaves all game because they were down two scores...any decent offense would have put them in that spot. We are content to be close to the vest and punt.

The 49ers were down to two nobodies at TE, their fourth string WR? Imagine if that was us? We had 185 yards of offense before the final drive and we had EVERYBODY healthy and on the field on offense! Jesus Christ. That game should have been over before you every pissed your pants about Woolen peaking back at the ball!

Over reaction. You are right dude. Kubiak and his boys are the answer, it's just that an entire off season wasn't enough time. Oh wait? Now that MM has his man? It's the players fault. I forgot. What a fucking crock of shit. Only Seattle fans. We probably get what we fucking deserve with this blasé coffee sipping bullshit attitude.

They fucking sucked, and they did not one fucking thing they promised all summer Smash mouth football? Nope, less than 90 yards rushing and pussied out on fourth and one. Exciting run game plays designed for Milroe? Nope, activated him for one fucking one yard run dive play. Brock Purdy had 17 yards rushing. Maybe instead of using Milroe in the last pre-season game just to see if he can run a fucking huddle they should have installed an offense that he could run and checked that out in a live game? It was the least imaginative offensive game plan I've seen in some time. And it's everything I feared when we hired Pete Carroll 2.0. I was told I was full of shit. I guess we'll see.

Over reaction. What a crock of shit. This offense was light years worse than last year, but now that the whipping boy is gone? It's the players fault. Grubb wasn't ready for the NFL, but I guess after watching Kubifuck, you think he is? Bullshit. He'll be the next scapegoat soon enough, and yet another time the HC and GM get off scott free and all you guys gobble it up.

Did you watch a team that looks like they deserve to be over paid? This might be the only good news from this Sunday is that most of the bullshit we saw can be replaced. There is no chance they think they have their QB of the future, no chance they think Cooper Kupp is JSN's running mate. This might just be a throw away year. Makes more sense than what we saw on Sunday is what they think will be playoff football!

I'm no huge supporter of Darnold, but they haven't even considered benching him yet. In this last game they didn't give
him an opportunity to light it up or fail miserably. They may plan for opening him up in the next game, or circumstances
may require it. In this last game, they felt they were on track to win without opening it up, which was stupid, but that's
what they thought. Purdy was under pressure according to the stats. Purdy was picked twice and could have easily been
picked more. But anyway, it's possible eventually Darnold is benched, but it would be Lock that comes in. Milroe is not an
option at this time. I don't think he ever will be, but for sure right now he's not. JS has shown us zero chance he changes
his philosophy. With the whole Seahawk fandom and media saying he needs to go all out on O-line, he basically sticks to
his guns and does things the same way he always has. There's zero chance he all of a sudden embraces a tanking
philosophy.

It's always a good idea in the NFL to allow the other team to keep close...they never come back. What a genius staff we have....the plan was working, until it didn't. Nothing to see here.

I want to see a QB like JJ that gave me the week 1 win in the pick em pool. lol
Dude - where are you these days? You're missing the summer heat wave, and if you don't get back here in time for fall and spring, you're totally gonna miss mudslide season! :D
I am in God's country Wenatchee. Did you see my post about yesterday being the first time the M's outscored the Hawks since Sept. 18th 2016? Do you remember where you were that day. lol
LA Coliseum, crappy loss to the lambs, then the rooftop bar at the Ace Hotel, then that tasty mexican place downtown? Other than that, I don't remember much about that day.

tanking might be a strong term but if you are really committed to needing to win this season do you trade DK and Geno away, do you roll your cap space into next season? There was a lot of speculation over JS needing to win, that he was gambling by making those trades with a season where he was going to need to win in order to avoid a hot seat. I mean I bought into it, but I am changing my mind. Interpreting the extension this way gives it a different slant, it makes Jody more active in the actual football strategy. I don't think there's the urgency that was given the situation before the season started.

I don't mean to defend Kubiak but looking at the highlights I'm thinking, its really not that hard to try and envision what the seahawk offense is supposed to look like, heck there's an example on the other side of the field, the damn offense is named after that coaches father. It could be Kubiak doesn't know what he is doing but he did run it with some success with the Saints last season. You look at the 49ers, they have a qb that chucks the ball downfield and receivers to catch it. The seahawks don't match up. Honestly the pieces they have along those lines are development pieces. MM or JS isn't going to admit to any of this but I just see them trying to install an offensive system without really having the pieces to run it.

yeah, scored 91 points in their first two games, and then 86 in their next five
Kubiak's offensive unit struggled in 2024, though not without reason. After a hot start, injuries took hold, forcing the Saints to play without Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and other key figures for significant portions of the season.
he has put points on the board and in the beginning of a season as the new OC
