Way too early offseason
Re: Way too early offseason
My guess is they re-sign Naylor but let Polanco go. Polanco is really showing the league what he can do, that he's fully healthy and can play second base. I think he'll have a number of 3-year offers and maybe a bit better than that, and I don't think DiPoto and Hollander will go there.

I think Castillo and Hogan Windish would get it done. lolSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 4:32 pmI can't believe nobody is talking about him thinking the M's could acquire Caminero![]()

22 year old who just hit 45 homers, is making nothing, and is controlled for the next 6 years on one of the cheapest teams in baseball.

THIS season???? You just found that out THIS season??? lolBig_Maple wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 5:18 pmIf the season has taught me anything, it’s that the Mariners are not gonna go after superstar free agents and sign them to huge lucrative contracts.
The fact that we made it this far in a postseason must be vindication for Dipoto. His business model seems to be based on developing a couple of homegrown stars and signing them to medium sized contracts (Julio, Cal) Then, go through the bargain basement bin and sign a bunch of.middling former stars or guys who are having down seasons to small contracts (Polanco). Then acquire a couple of decent pants at the trade deadline without spending too much (Geno, Naylor).
We got further in the postseason than either the Yankees or the Mets, who have spent huge amounts of money to acquire superstars. So yeah, I don’t think the Mariners are gonna go after any big names in the off-season. Why would they?

Would Jerry make a bold move & potentially target Skubal should he become available. I'd be making a trade offer tomorrow. Are they even working or discussing an extension for him. Again we can't keep all these pitchers as much as we want to. What are the odds one or two get moved to the Pen. I don't know about you but someone like Skubal is someone I make an exception for. I think you gotta decide who's worth ultimately keeping in your rotation, not unless you wanna increase payroll by 100 million. Castillo you know is gone after next year. Just in time for Kade to make his long awaited debut. Then what about Sloan & switchy. Sloan I know is probably a couple years away, probably more 2028 I'd imagine. Somebody has to get moved.

I doubt it but imagine our rotation with him instead of Miller. Could also trade Castillo to make room.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 8:22 pmWould Jerry make a bold move & potentially target Skubal should he become available. Um. Well, yes. THIS season they won the ALDS using that cheap-assed strategy. Ergo, I expect to hear Dipoto et al. tell us they don’t need the big name guys.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 7:41 pmTHIS season???? Well he said we should be thankful after we missed the playoff so yes, I doubt he changes his tune after we make the ALCS albeit by the hairs of our chinny chin chin.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 9:30 pmUm. Re: Way too early offseason
What does he expect to not pay his own guys. At some point you gotta increase spending. Look at how LA structured Ohtani's contract. All his money is deferred. Why aren't teams structuring contracts this way.
Re: Way too early offseason
I don't think the Tigers would go for that and a pitcher would need to be included going Detroit's way.
