If it is in fact $90M He only needs to put up a little over 11 WAR in 5 seasons to make it worth. 2.2 WAR per season. I think he can do it now that he knows he can steal 30 bags off all the dumb pitchers.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 7:03 amdesbcoach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 4:04 amYour are getting a full year of Naylor , a bit more then a run backSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 2:55 amIdk. I'm underwhelmed.
Running it back is fine I guess, but it doesn't move the needle for me.
This better not be their "big" signing.
I have gone back and forth all day. I loved the way Josh played down the stretch. But it appears they are paying for the post trade Nails, vs his career norms.
Posy trade he was a .299 .341 .490 .831 138 OPS+ guy on a 27 HR and 57/57 SB pace. He was a 6 WAR pace guy post trade.

It is crazy how many people think the opposite. Personal Finance really needs to be taught in high school. So many ignorant people with bad credit out there. Could mostly be prevented.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:36 amIts the cost of doing business, that's a baseline contract for fielding a team these daysbpj wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:33 amThey might end up with a bad year or two at the end, but Yandy Diaz will be a year older (34) in 2026 than Naylor will be by the end of a 5 year contract. (29-33 years old).
They just filled a position with a guy that was top 10 in MLB at his position. Seems like a win.

That's the thing though. Until the last 2 Months he never put up that level of War in his entire career.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 12:52 pmThe length of the contract is irrelevant. All that matters is the WAR he generates. If he puts up 10 WAR over the next three years the contract is paid for, forget the last two years.
2021 -.1 WAR in 69 games
2022 1.7 WAR in 122 games
2023 2.3 WAR in 121 games
2024 1.5 WAR in 151 games
2025 (pre trade) .8 WAR in 93 games.
It seems highly unlikely that some light switch just turned on at age 28 and that we are going to see him put up 10 WAR over the next 3 seasons when prior to getting to Seattle he was never even remotely close to that level of production.

Not a bad number
November 17th: The Mariners have made it official, announcing they have signed Naylor to a five-year deal. The total guarantee is $92.5MM, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. There’s a full no-trade clause and a $6.5MM signing bonus, per Robert Murray of FanSided. There are no deferrals, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Yikes! No trade clause...

18.5/year - pretty good I'd say - I thought 20 was fair and if we signed him for any less than that we got the better end of it so kudos to the club!desbcoach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 12:09 amNot a bad number

No it is a $17.2/season deal. He gets $6.5 as a signing bonus which comes now.Lamda wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 12:18 am18.5/year - pretty good I'd say - I thought 20 was fair and if we signed him for any less than that we got the better end of it so kudos to the club!desbcoach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 12:09 amNot a bad number

I'm saying he's going to do it, I'm saying its the WAR that matters not the years. How much WAR have you paid for with your $100 MIL.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 9:28 pmThat's the thing though. My guess is that this deal is easily the best that Naylor could do on the market. I don't think any other team was coming close to this.
