Nats had one of the worse defenses in the league, that makes it tough on a ground ball pitcher and leading to a high BABIPPharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 3:34 amBABIP is pretty high for grounders. He has a 64._ % rate. Usually grounders turn into singles. I think he will be great. He has a couple of secondaries that have high strike out rates and whiffs. I am betting they ask him to increase their use and we have another guy down there in the BP that can just shove. Prince Harry is a fair price.

You claimed that there are only 3 lefty relievers in the game that can throw 100. Not even close to true.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:41 amWhat did I claim that wasn't true?Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 9:35 pmYou're right the only possible response was to post false info while also claiming that you are the one that "does research".Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 7:43 pm
You compared Ferrer to Ferguson in a post. Basically just ignoring any and all context.
What else am I supposed to do?
This is like saying a team shouldn't have traded for Mackenzie Gore b/c they already have Marco Gonzales.
You want to argue your point, fine but you lose all respect when you talk down to people while simultaneously claiming things that obviously aren't true.
This is now the second time someone has called me a liar in 2 days lol. I already proved the other guy wrong.
He's hit 100+ plenty of times in the videos I've posted in this very thread. Tf are you on?

You took "in the game" to mean in ALL of professional baseball, including the minors? Should we go unsigned Independent League players too? There are 3x MLB lefties relievers who currently regularly throw over 100. Ferrer is one of them.
Brother... if I gotta explain that idk what we're doing here.

That's just flat out not true. he doesn't "regularly" throw 100. He sits at 97-98. And there are way more than three MLB lefty relievers who are capable of hitting 100 MPH. some of whom suck just as much as Ferrer does. If his velocity is such a valuable commodity you'd think he'd be able to at least be an average MLB pitcher instead he is putting up numbers worse than Bobby Ayala at age 25.

Care to point them out? Because again, I've looked it up and there's like 3-4 total who are regular MLB lefty relievers who are actually throwing 100 in games.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 6:51 amThat's just flat out not true. he doesn't "regularly" throw 100. Now you're putting Bobby Ayala up against Ferrer... good christ... this is honestly the stupidest line of argument I've ever seen on this forum and Vogelbomb/Seth exist. Like I said... u pulling this dumb shit is like saying the a team shouldn't trade for Mackenzie Gore because Marco Gonzales once put up similar numbers to him. This trade isn't about like numbers.
It's about acquiring a guy who has the stuff to be a legit shutdown leverage arm. That's why the M's made the trade. And if you want to look at numbers, he had a FIP of 2.76 in '24 and 3.03 in '25 b/c he pitched behind practically the worst defense in baseball.
In case you hadn't noticed, the market for relievers is insane right now. Devin Williams got $17M a year coming off a 4.79 ERA year where he had a 2.68 FIP... if the M's get a good one in Ferrer it's a bargain in this market.

Montgomery and Soto both hit 100 often and they both suck just as bad as Ferrer. In addition to them, Cleavinger, Koenig and Ashby can hit 100. I didn't follow him much this year but Tanner Scott was hitting 100 in the playoffs in 2024.
The stupidest argument in this thread is your argument that because a guy throws hard that makes him a high leverage arm. I don't care if he throws 105. He doesn't miss bats and he doesn't get people out. FIP is a stupid stat. You give up a double in the gap and it doesn't count against your FIP.
I am just going to keep throwing up random stat comparisons to demonstrate how poorly he has pitched. Here is Heathcliff Slocumb in the three years before the M's acquired him compared to the last 3 years for Ferrer. Look at Slocumb's awesome FIP how in the world did he fail in Seattle with an FIP like that?

Remember this waiver wire lefty that we picked up last year from the Mets. He pitched 3 scoreless innings for us before we dumped him. He also was better than the guy we just traded a top 100 prospect for.

LOL they say that ever time. at least the guy is still young. Usually it is a guy they acquire at the wrong side of 30 yo that was good years ago.harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 4:07 amThe Mariners reportedly had coveted Jose A. Ferrer since the left-hander was 19 years old in 2019:

This was the guy we were looking to acquire.”

Castillo was DFA'd by multiple teams last year and last I checked is possibly playing in an Asian league in '26.
You really think the Mariners were the only team offering a premium trade for Ferrer? You're actually that dense?

The guy literally had a worse season than a pitcher who got DFA'd 4 times and you think trading a top 100 player for him is a fair deal. Ferrer has been around three seasons already and has shown zero ability to be a high leverage arm. But hey he throws 98!
reminds of all the guys insisting that Kelenic was a future super star because he was a "5 tool talent" and just needed some time to work things out.
Are you going to be happy with the trade if Ferrer comes in here and puts up another Mediocre season? Of course not. He needs to improve drastically for this to be a good trade. Could it happen? Sure. But giving up a top 100 prospect for a guy that you're hoping can do something that he has never done before seems foolish to me.
