Emerson and the roster
Re: Emerson and the roster
We all remember Dustin Ackley, he hit .303 in Tacoma in 2010, scouts were saying he was the best hitter they had ever seen!
Can’t miss said his college coach.
And his best season was his first, when he hit seven triples, spraying line drives all over the place, baseball fans were excited all over Seattle.

Re: Emerson and the roster
I still think that hyper Jerry screwed him up, switching him from position to position, never letting him get comfortable.

Re: Emerson and the roster
He had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. In the game of adjustments he ended up out adjusted. It was basically as I understand it the upper part of the strike zone

That’s why these long term contracts for guys who’ve proven nothing, are crazy.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 4:12 pmHe had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. Re: Emerson and the roster
Ackley was never that type of player to begin with. He was more a product of what was a very mediocre draft. He was a college player, that is older than Emerson, he was coming off TJ surgery and didn't offer much defense. Make Ackley three years younger, give him the defense to play SS and even with the disappointing offense he'd have had a lot higher floor.Hy Feiber wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 5:42 pmThat’s why these long term contracts for guys who’ve proven nothing, are crazy.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 4:12 pmHe had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. I was thinking a comp for the Emerson contact might be the money being handed out with the international FAs. Giving a 20 year old that's been developing in your system a $100 mil contract is similar to giving a 14 year old in the DR $5 mil that barely played organized baseball. It's kinda similar projections isn't it
Re: Emerson and the roster
So, here is where Jerry the Dip really screwed up the organization yet again. If you sign a prospect to a long term extension prior to him making his ML debut, that player/team becomes ineligible for the Prospect Promotion Incentive draft pick, which comes at the end of the first round before the competition picks. Why not wait until Colt makes his debut and then sign him to a contract? Because Jerry and Justin are idiots.

There is zero chance Colt will win Roy this season so another reason to keep him down until August buy yeah why not do the deal in August after he proved himself ready in AAA.

Because they are trying to get the deal closed. It's always about closing the deal. You wait until he's proved himself then it's a whole new dealD-train wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 3:53 pmBil522 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 2:54 pmSo, here is where Jerry the Dip really screwed up the organization yet again. He wouldn't get much more with a few good months in the PCL but he wouldn't now have to be forced onto a full roster...Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 4:28 pmBecause they are trying to get the deal closed. You put a deal together, if you are going to say well let's wait until August and see how you do in AAA then there's no deal to begin with. That's all I can say, it's all about closing the dealD-train wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 4:35 pmHe wouldn't get much more with a few good months in the PCL but he wouldn't now have to be forced onto a full roster...Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 4:28 pmBecause they are trying to get the deal closed.
