Mike Salk made the suggestion today that Emerson and Young could be the next Ackley and Seager where the less heralded prospect ends up being massively better than the one that was hyped up all the way to Neptune.

You can blame all that hype on Jerry then. As for Logan. It's just the logjam coupled with Castillo shaky streak. We're all clamoring for Kade I know. So many potential trade options. Just looking at names off the top of my head. Duran is gonna be a name that's out there again along with Kerkering & even Chapman & former M Riley O'Brien of the Cards. Still to early to rush to judgement.

I would love Johan Duran but we should trade a prospect or two for him not Logan freakin Gilbert. Cards are still contending but sure if they fall out by July. Kerkering would be a homeless man's Duran but certainly better than Cole f-ing Wilcox that is still in our pen for some reason.

A LOT of differences. Not the same age or draft or round of the draft but the level of hype is similar with Colt and Ackley vs. Seager and Cole.

Colt hit a HR last night and his OPS is at .800 which is ok for the PCL but his BA is .235 and K rate now at 28% both sub optimal for a contact non power hitter that is "VERY close to making an impact in MLB" per Jerry.

I agree with you about the hype but I think you're obsessing about this too much, especially day to day results. They gave him an advanced assignment this year to make sure he's challenged, and I think that was the right move.

He is a 20 yo kid who is hitting .235 in over 100 PAs. That is a decent sample and that is what I am obsessing on vs. day to day results.

Look, I like Colt, am obviously rooting for him and am pretty sure he is going to EVENTUALLY be a good Major leaguer but my GOD these guys are like blind deaf and dumb to reality. He is hitting .235 in a league where two journey man 30+ yo catchers and O'Keefe and Pareda are hitting .353 and .342 respectively in over 100 combined PAs.

In what world does that scream making an immediate impact vs. MLB pitching. I swear I must be taking crazy pills.

I don't think I'd call that "normal" when our farm is supposedly one of the best in baseball. Just about all of these guys should be performing at a level that's well above league average.

Moore did catch my eye. He's not listed on the prospect list (probably because he's 26) but his turnaround from last year to this year is insane. You rarely see a turnaround that drastic. Went from walking everybody to striking out everybody.

Moore and Little were both guys drafted in later rounds as high upside projects, basically. I'm not sure the details of Moore's story but I think he was injured part of last season, which may have impacted his performance. Little has been decent for them in the minors, but obviously they like his upside in the bullpen.

Some familiar names on Bellingham's roster: Ivan Calderon, Darnell Coles, Johnny Moses, Ed Vandeberg, and Matt Young. Coles and Moses inexplicably had a combined 25 years of MLB service in which they combined for a WAR of - 5.0. Matt Young was AWFUL but he figured it out.

San Jose had Dave Valle and Bud Black. We then traded Black for Manny Castillo. Good job, geniuses. And there's #1 overall pick Al Chambers who hit really well in the minors but usually at high altitude (Salt Lake City and Calgary).

Lynn had nobody.

Spokane had Dave Henderson. Surprising that he hit so well in the minors but not so much for the Mariners.

Yep I've been saying for a couple years the farm system is completely overrated. Basically we have Anderson and erson and Stevenson and both of those guys are from last year's draft and that is it.
