I just noticed that this morning too. What does Don Mattingly do that's different? Yell at them louder? It's just goofy how sometimes it works out that way.

Maybe they are humans with actual emotions and they realized their pathetic performance cost a man his job? I doubt it, but it should be the case. The managers get shit canned all the time because they follow the FO orders and the players suck ass. This team is pathetic, and it was constructed poorly, and that isn't on Wilson. He never should have been hired in the first place, and that is also not on Wilson.

But how often after a mid-season managerial change does a team improve this much? Very, very rarely. Not to mention that Mattingly has been canned twice and in six years with the Marlins they were very unsuccessful. And he didn't come in and implement some great offensive strategy or bullpen usage, and presumably he doesn't give dugout speeches that make the team charge onto the field like Braveheart. The Phillies' outstanding play since the hiring is coincidental. That said, we sure could use one of those coincidences.

I know Dan doesn't make the lineup/PH decisions but I would love to be able to check the alternate universe in which Raley and Canzone were allowed to play every day and not get PH for and see what would our record be...I know it couldn't be worse and I bet we would have at least a couple more wins.

I don't think it be that difficult to model actually. There are programs now where you can run all the different permutations for a season get the various outcomes.
