Funny how they displayed it as 538 feet but then later after they did all the calculations it was reassessed to about 475. I know, hard to believe but what deceives people is that the rows go up at a angle so they're not as far apart as they seem, and once gravity takes over the ball drops like a boulder.

Adolpho Phillips, playing for the Portland Beavers in about 1969. Hit one over the LF wall, which was only something like 315, but probably 30' high. Cleared the wall, several rows of seats, and did a one hop in the middle of the street. Pretty impressive at thr time.
I'm still salty about Portland ruining a nice little minor league stadium to convert it to (yuk!) soccer

Were you at that game? I was down the third base line to the right of the dugout 12 rows back! I remember, I didn't see him drop his bat, the catcher was in the way and that ball went toward the far reaches of the dome, like way back up in there...also after he dropped his bat, he snapped his right thumb and forefinger...and we could hear that from our seats. Also we lost that game and it reminded me of 1969 when I saw Steve Carlton strike out 19 Mets but lose the game 4-2. When we talk, remind me to tell you about a home run Jim Northrupt hit at Yankee stadium...a linedrive Horace Clark leaped for and touched with his glove...

I was at a game when Steve Balboni hit on up there. That use to be the rare fraternity. 2nd Deck in LF even more than the 3rd deck in RF. Remember the Walla Walla in RF. LOL In the early years it was a normal sized wall with a blue tarp above it. If it hit that it was a HR. Beyond cheesy. Imagine if some team had a something that cheesy today. Oh wait where do the A's play again???

It just boggles the mind that the farther back you go, the less footage there is even though they've been televising games for quite some time. Apparently the networks used to tape over games including the World Series. How stupid is that? There's literally no viable game footage of Babe Ruth other than him swinging the bat and running around the bases like Benny Hill. And the cameramen fucking SUCKED. The Shot Heard 'Round The World by Bobby Thomson in 1951, for instance. That was a line drive into the lower deck in left field and the idiot cameraman swung his camera so badly he screwed up the shot.
