How would fixing games increase the NFLs revenue? That's where I'm lost. It's Goodell doing it personally? Like some Uber Tim Donaghy situation? That would be pretty wild.

And the thing is, it's like the deal with Balmer. Could you imagine the glory of someone uncovering a story like that? There's so many eyes on them
Who says it's meant to increase the NFL's revenue? C'mon, how could you even justify that on a tax return? Clearly this is all off-book. You dont' have any clue about the donaghy - I read his book - he goes through exactly how the NBA games are manipulated on a grand scale - on how it all started - and it didn't come from David Stern. People that 'investigate' corruption like this - end up unalived. Are people seriously this naive? You think the mob is just gonna let a cash cow end? SPorts have been manipulated since the 1900's, the evidence is overwhelming, there are threads on here discussing specific instances, but yeah, magically, the NFL is somehow immune?

That's some next level oblivion.

The question is simple: Is it POSSIBLE? If it is, and we know it is, then someone is finding a way. They always do. Does not, in any way, mean Goodell is behind it. People's lack of imagination is astounding to me. Greed makes people very clever and crafty.

fyi there is a NFL officials union. They don't take to kindly to most of their members being fired...
And what's this age bias crap to begin with? lol
Not to mention younger and hungrier to me means they would be wanting to take more control of the game not less. Hungry and humble?? Make it make sense....
The NFL is owned by a group of the richest and most powerful people on the planet. They are the elite of the elitists.
It is a joke to think there is any real power in a union for NFL referees. That is ridiculous. lol
The NFL is the only buyer of this labor and has shown it will hire replacements rather than concede on control of the
product. Literally, the only real power the douche bag referees have is that if they are replaced, the product will
suffer, as the narrative convinced us in 2012. Think back to 2012, the Seahawks were at the center of the controversy
when Golden Tate simultaneously snatched possession of a hail mary pass from Russ. The narrative painted by the
media was how terrible the call was, but fast forward to now and that would just be your average contested call in
any given game.

The only measurable thing the union for referees is doing is sinking their own ship. They can be locked out in masse,
at will, and have been. The unionization protects old feeble narcissistic douche bags from better alternatives, while
now bending the knee to the wokeness Gods by making the newest recruits women who may or may not be worth a
shit. Transvestites will be next. The analogy is flight attendants, FKA stewardesses. They used to be hot young friendly
women and the union turned the result into cranky mean old Karens, with some gay dudes spliced in.

This week, a ref lost his shit on a player that completely innocently got knocked into him and tried to help him off
the ground. Another ref was caught on camera telling a talented and popular tight end to fuck off, on camera. Add
that to the Seahawks and other games where flags ruined the entertainment and sporting value of the game.
Yes, fire the old fucks. We have reached the tipping point where the alternative cannot be worse than what we have
now. The NFL absolutely can fire and replace them. People who try to nothingburger and belittle this
sentiment will look dumber every week.

NFL suspended the guy as I posted. They aren't going to replace them unless there is a labor dispute. Certainly not going to do if for enforcing the rules that the NFL came up with. If the NFL thinks they are overzealous which it seems they have been based on the inflated flags thrown numbers then I am sure they will be reprimanded and the penalties called will regress to the mean. That seems to be a lot more of a simple, smooth and painless cost effective solution than firing a bunch of guys and having to hire and train new guys...

Yes, I wish Airlines would go back to the good ole days but sadly that ship has sailed like so many other things that made this country great...sigh

btw thanks for the paragraphs.... :)

I would fire most of them and start over with younger, hungrier, more humble types.
I would start with that crew we saw Sunday.
Yep!

One of the few times you agree with me? I'm hurt!
Sorry, that was poorly worded. I meant on the subject of the games being unwatchable. You have been saying this for a lot longer than I have been. I should have been more clear. On that topic? In years past? I have disagreed with you. I have enjoyed watching football. Not the college game, but the Pro game. This year? Not so much. And I have watched much less. Again, I even took my wife out for the second half. Yes, the game was on a screen where we were at....but I barely paid attention. The game was just flat out hard to watch.

If they aren't going to fire a guy for telling a player to Fuck off twice they aren't going to fire a crew for missing a few calls...

No one is saying they will. Again, they don't give a fuck about us. The growth is going to come from making the game more International. They honestly don't care if they lose millions of US fans, if they gain more than that Internationally. I think that is obvious how the game is handled now. The officiating is horseshit, and the play is sub par. They aren't even ready to really play until week five or six anymore, but they don't give a fuck. They are the big bad NFL, the are going to expand globally, and enough fans here are going to watch regardless.

Maybe one day it'll bite them in the ass, but I'm not foolish enough to believe two things. One, that they give two squirts of piss what I think. Two, that they are going to be impacted financially in any way shape or form.

Shit, this is a lot like the WNBA. The controversy is good, so they are probably leaning into it.

The actual solution would be to make them full time employees, have them concentrate on football. Hard to believe that wouldn't improve performance. Its nuts really that they just show up to referee games. That must harken back to the NFL origin story. But again, the issue is the union. Not that the union is a bad thing but it take negotiating with the union. That is the hangup

Long time debate, and one that will probably never happen. Why? They don't have to, for the same reason we have been discussing. It will not hurt them financially to continue things the way they are.
