I posted this in another thread, but it really grabbed me.

"When Nelson gets on the field, he's mean. There are countless social media clips of him destroying some unsuspecting defender. At the combine he calmly described himself as a nasty player and said his goal for his opponents was to 'take their will away to play the game'."

Nelson is 30, Mack is 35.
Mack would be a terrible acquisition. Too old, too expensive, just a terrible move unless it is ultra cheap, and even then I don't think he'd fit here necessarily. I hate these "trade for everyone avail with a big name" theories. We aren't the lambs

I don't know if i'd call a 3rd and 5th pennies for a rental. If they can extend of re-sign him then definitely a good deal. They must not have been happy with Zabel''s lack of improvent this year.
Zero chance he doesn't get resigned. That would be a JS priority- obviously. He's not an idiot. Probably already in talks with the agent to gauge cost. I can see something like a four year extension for 65/75 heavy on bonuses to keep it cap friendly. Yeah, they got him on the cheap. Remember that we have a lot of draft capitol this year. There is a good chance we lose bradford to someone like the jets who will make him the highest paid lineman in the league

Do you really think JS isn't playing the long game here? This is a great move. Like when we picked up shaheed last year and he turned out to be invaluable to the SB run. It was a game changer. This could be too.
Hes being projected more like $100 mil over four years. You're 100% certain JS is planning to pay that for a guard...ok

Yeah, so are you pairing him with Bradford or replacing Bradford?

Field Gulls seems to feel Bradford is out, honestly that makes time most sense
Nelson has spent his entire career as an elite pass protector and run blocker at left guard, so this could possibly result in Grey Zabel moving to right guard while Nelson slots in at his most comfortable position. Zabel can play on either side and just hasn’t had the need to switch yet. What this means for starting right guard Anthony Bradford remains to be seen, but by default someone is about to lose their starting job at guard

I was sort of hoping for the Zabel-to-center scenario, but in reality, we will probably need all of them down the stretch.

I don't think they're going to replace Bradford at this point. I also think that acquiring Mack would be a mistake. Even as a rental. Too many miles.

I’d like to see us go get Pollard or a wide out if we have the resources
