*Called the longest tenured player "overpaid". This player is going to be a major part of this year if motivated and now his wife is thinking about selling their house. How long til Seager requests a trade now?

*Was mad with Kelenic because he wouldn't sign for an insulting offer. Our #1 prospect and a guy considered the future, and he went out of his way to say they won't play him early now cause he wouldn't sign for peanuts on the dollar.

*Said he wouldn't play our top pitching prospect to save time on his current deal. Even if other teams do this, they don't discuss it out in public.

*Said our 2nd best prospect has bad English, when in fact he already speaks better then Edgar Martinez at only 20 years old. JRod even mentioned on Twitter this made him mad and now other teams are thinking they can acquire him for cheap.

*Was mad about paying Kumas interpretor 75k. Why would Iwakuma want to even coach here anymore when it's clear ownership doesn't care about him?

*Made a backhanded compliment to Paxton about how he came here with hat in hand cause other teams wouldnt meet his demands. Said Taijuan wouldn't sign for 3 years either when he just did.

*Says no way employees can park in the parking garage cause they need to charge $40 a spot, but then said it's unsafe for his employees to walk 5 blocks.

*Made fun of the Seahawks Super Bowl parade which was just not necessary. The Seahawks are 100% a better organization then the Mariners.

*Talked really poorly about Latin America prospects. Why would any future talent want to sign here?

The comments he made about service time manipulation were significant, that is something clubs have refused to admit up until now, and with MLB-player agreement coming due...

Over the last few years there has been a growing distrust between MLB and the MLB Players Association. The players union does not like that teams are tanking, scaling back on their free-agent spending, and manipulating the service time of their top prospects, among other things. The collective bargaining agreement expires in December and negotiations are expected to be contentious.

Service-time manipulation is widespread but damn near impossible to prove. Kris Bryant filed a grievance against the Cubs for manipulating his service time in 2015, and lost the case because he lacked evidence. It's an open secret teams manipulate service time (i.e. keep their prospects in the minors long enough to delay free agency). Good luck proving it though.

The best evidence is candid comments made by the other side and Seattle Mariners president Kevin Mather appears to have provided those comments earlier this month. During an event with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club, Mather indicated the club was not going to call up their top prospects last season for service-time reasons no matter what. You mean like when he was talking about all the improvements with the training complexes in latin america and how far they go to make sure the players are prepared to live in the U.S.? I don't recall him saying that was a bad thing or a waste of money.

Not even close to my meaning. I'm talking about the clincher that is Mather’s highly inappropriate attitude regarding the Mariners’ foreign players.

That will do irreparable harm in its own right to a team that has already lost the faith of its fan base — deservedly so — and now faces a potentially rebellious squad. That's what I mean.

Our organization likes to boast about the great culture they’ve built in here. However, these remarks by Mather to the Rotary Club two weeks ago reflect an ailing culture at the very top.

I'm glad someone in here gets it. Why would any prospect or player care about playing for the Mariners after Mathers comments. If i was Kelenic, im probably on the phone with my agent requesting a trade.

I'm worried about how this may affect our signing of Felnin Celesten. The M's are hands down the favorites to sign the #1 International Draft Prospect for 2022. This better not come back to bite us in the ass.

why should he be fired, how can they really disown what he had to say? He opened a window to how the Mariners run their franchise, it was kind of refreshing really. Could you imagine him saying any of that to reporters?

Then what is the guy apologizing for if he didn't do anything wrong? We all know he fucked up. Hell even Mather knows he fucked up. This is all over the national headlines. Stop pretending like its not a big deal. It's in the USA Today, CBS, NBC. C'mon man give us a break already!

After listening to it again and hearing KM say they could have gone to Spokane with a team just is really upsetting, His condescending attitude to those of us on the east side even flippantly giving us the finger with his snub. After a sleepless night fretting over the hypocrisy of his rudeness, race baiting arrowgance I see no future as a Mariner fan if he isn’t fired immediately and all remaining executive need sensitivity retraining immediately. The long term damage to the players and fans may never be fixed given the obvious ignorance displayed.

I have to agree. If they stand by him, I may look for a different team to root for. 3 years of a solid rebuild and Mather tried to sink it in 45 minutes.
