With White... he basically said that White was sort of a sucker for taking the deal despite the MLBPA telling him not to.
With Marco... well you never want to out what happens in a clubhouse of a pro sports organization. Fans probably like that he stood up to Leake, but I'm not sure Marco wants it out there that he's the guy that has to fight those in the clubhouse who aren't all in.
With Walker... he basically said Walker was kidding himself expecting a 3-year deal and they were expecting him to come begging... again, Walker can't love that his talents are construed this way and out to the public.
Torrens... he doesn't even know how to pronounce the kid's name... imagine investing that little time into the players you work with.
White he just said what everyone knows. He took security in the short run over potentially more money later. Players do that all the time, it happens every year when NFL prospects leave early. That isn't offensive.
As far as Walker, he just didn't think he'd get a longer offer.
These things are so petty to say they were offensive...

The other 29 fan bases, players, and media members are shocked he hasn't been fired yet. Even MLBPA is calling for his head. We can all have different opinions but we should all agree Mather fucked up

Read the transcript.
*Called the longest tenured player "overpaid". This player is going to be a major part of this year if motivated and now his wife is thinking about selling their house. How long til Seager requests a trade now?
*Was mad with Kelenic because he wouldn't sign for an insulting offer. Our #1 prospect and a guy considered the future, and he went out of his way to say they won't play him early now cause he wouldn't sign for peanuts on the dollar.
*Said he wouldn't play our top pitching prospect to save time on his current deal. Even if other teams do this, they don't discuss it out in public.
*Said our 2nd best prospect has bad English, when in fact he already speaks better then Edgar Martinez at only 20 years old. JRod even mentioned on Twitter this made him mad and now other teams are thinking they can acquire him for cheap.
*Was mad about paying Kumas interpretor 75k. Why would Iwakuma want to even coach here anymore when it's clear ownership doesn't care about him?
*Made a backhanded compliment to Paxton about how he came here with hat in hand cause other teams wouldnt meet his demands. Said Taijuan wouldn't sign for 3 years either when he just did.
*Says no way employees can park in the parking garage cause they need to charge $40 a spot, but then said it's unsafe for his employees to walk 5 blocks.
*Made fun of the Seahawks Super Bowl parade which was just not necessary. The Seahawks are 100% a better organization then the Mariners.
*Talked really poorly about Latin America prospects. Why would any future talent want to sign here?
Transcript doesn't cut it.
That was a stupid comment because of what Seager has meant to the organization, but did anyone think they were going to try to re-sign him, including Seager himself? And he said "probably overpaid".Hasslecracked wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:58 pm*Called the longest tenured player "overpaid". You are just making things up there. Did you watch the video? Did he appear mad? He didn't even say what the numbers were but you can somehow conclude it was an insulting offer? I think his way of speaking, if isolated, gives the impression of contempt for Kelenic for not signing the offer but when you watch all of the video it's just the way he talks, there is an aloofness about it that rubs people the wrong way.Hasslecracked wrote: *Was mad with Kelenic because he wouldn't sign for an insulting offer. Could you find the quote on that because i don't recall him specifically saying that. He said there was no way they were going to put any of the young prospects on the 40 man roster because they "didn't want to start their service time clocks for various reasons". I think it's not a stretch to assume that one of the main reasons was that they didn't think those players were ready yet. And I don't recall anyone clamoring for Kelenic or Gilbert to get playing time last year, but perhaps i am wrong.Hasslecracked wrote: *Said he wouldn't play our top pitching prospect to save time on his current deal. He said "his English is not tremendous... but he and Kelenic are very good friends". Was it a cheap shot? Perhaps, but why would he just say that out of the blue without reference to something? It could just be that it's unusual for a foreign prospect to be buddies with one from the U.S. due to the language barrier, and that's why he tossed that remark in there. And while Julio's english may be good now, it may not have been when they first met.Hasslecracked wrote: *Said our 2nd best prospect has bad English, when in fact he already speaks better then Edgar Martinez at only 20 years old. Again, where do you get that he was mad? It sounded like a business decision and part of the negotiations within the hiring process. Iwakuma accepted the terms so i doubt he took it personally. It's certainly possible they don't care about him, but i would need more evidence than that. Besides, won't there be an intepreter on hand already for the Japanese pitcher currently playing for the team?Hasslecracked wrote: *Was mad about paying Kumas interpretor 75k. He said their position, in view of the $2.9 bil loss that MLB took last year, was that there were around 180 free agents out there as of Feb 5 and that sooner or later they would come with hat in hand looking for a contract, and that "we think Walker is one of them". He then goes on to reveal they were in talks with Paxton for substantially less than what his agent had demanded. Maybe there's another part that you're referring to, but that excerpt just reveals the nature of doing business where it involves attempting to sign players to the lowest amount possible. They're not running a charity.Hasslecracked wrote: *Made a backhanded compliment to Paxton about how he came here with hat in hand cause other teams wouldnt meet his demands. He just said the Mariners parade would be much bigger. I would seriously doubt that if the ownership group was paying for it. So yeah, stupid comment.Hasslecracked wrote: *Made fun of the Seahawks Super Bowl parade which was just not necessary. The Seahawks are 100% a better organization then the Mariners.

He was talking specifically about to prospects "that would have never seen (Tacoma) or (Seattle) in 2020" if it wasn't for Covid "18, 19 and 20 year old kids". He was taking about Julio, Marte, Hancock, DeLoach, etc. Those were the ones he was taking about, and was implying were never going to be put in the 40 man roster.

As far as the Latin players, he talked poorly about how the team prepared them in the past to play in the states, and mentioned that they were doing things better to help them prepare.

Re: Some juicy ass stuff from Mather here (Not meant for public)
Here's the issue with calling the crowd who want him fired "woke."
There's a different standard that we set for old, rich people... they're like a cat with 9 lives... the average person who works under him gets fired if this asshole determines that they didn't sell enough hotdogs during the season... Is it so wrong for the mob to want to hold this fuck to a standard and seek justice?

So many are too quick to jump on what a small excerpt of a quote means without reading the whole thing for context and trying to actually understand the intention and what the true meaning of the quote was.

Kevin Mather issued a video conference call in which he made statements that should never have been recorded or made known to the public. Its not that its specifically offensive to anyone person for thinking it or how they operate, but to act on it and say it a loud is where he went wrong. It has put the organization in a bad light, whether you agree or disagree with his statements. That's just the facts. Now its all about damage control and how we move forward from here in the best possible direction.
My grandmother used to say, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all.
