There's a rumor going around that the Steelers and the Raiders are interested in Kyler Murray.

And you are correct. Why hire Pete when the team is in need of a rebuild, looking back it doesn't make sense. That was pointed out at the time. You don't hire a 73.year old coach to rebuild. That's my point, nobody was looking at it as a rebuild

I was optimistic about the arrival of Pete Carroll and Geno Smith" What reason would there be to be optimistic if you don't think there's a chance to make the playoffs?

Personally it seemed odd, mainly because of the division they are in. I could see hiring Pete for some star power with the other coaching personalities there but I didn't really understand the direction. But I don't follow the Raiders

I was thinking things shifted after the Adams trade. Not the trading for him but the letdown over how he was utilized. It was supposed to be going to this next level of defense, a new hybrid. I remember being optimistic about it. And then nothing happened, that seemed the point where the defense actually cratered. That to me is the difference now. MM is running the sort of defense I thought Pete had in mind with Adam's. Now that defense is here. And I give JS credit for that, I think he was envisioning a defense that even PC wasn't. I think Adams was just the kind of player MM would want to get his hands on. It's why they drafted Emmanwori

Okay, here, a mid-season report card on preseason moves. To me pundits had a more positive opinion of the raiders off season than the seahawks

Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks: Lots of people in the Pacific Northwest should be taking a victory lap right about now. The Seahawks' offensive overhaul produced lots of side-eyes this offseason, but so far nearly every move looks like a near masterstroke. There's still substantial room for the offense to grow if a stumbling ground game ranked 31st in expected points added per carry can find its footing. But with Sam Darnold continuing to bombard opponents with deep strikes, Seattle's found something sustainable with its calculated aggression. Meanwhile, Mike Macdonald's complex defense appears as vexing as ever, and the Seahawks' ability to thrive on the road makes them a dangerous postseason threat

Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders: Between the arrivals of Pete Carroll and Geno Smith, Las Vegas looked bound to establish a baseline level of competence that had eluded the organization for years. Instead, the Silver and Black have prompted questions of whether the 74-year-old coach and 35-year-old quarterback are the right figures to be leading a group that still looks to be a couple years off at minimum. Between the limited returns from the rookie class and the defense looking as dilapidated as ever, there aren't many encouraging signs that the Raiders can make up ground on the rest of the AFC West anytime soon.

Pete could have, and should have stayed retired. He is the same out dated dinosaur he was when he was here. Sorry, I can't feel sorry for him. His stubborn refusal to ever adapt is what made this franchise a real good team and not a dynasty. Seriously, why come out of retirement to coach Vegas?

They were asking the same thing on national sports radio live Vegas would hire the oldest coach in the history of the NFL for a rebuild.

Yup. I don't get it. PC could have had any other avenue if he didn't want to retire gracefully, including network broadcasting on game days, but he takes the shit Raiders' HC job and helps import our over-the-hill gang? I think the Raiders and Titans are our new expanded practice squads.

Until maybe the Cardinals beat us in a shocker and then we dump the Rams' game next week and suck at 6-4.

Sorry I shouldn't have said "YOU" but when you change HCs and QBs to a 4-13 team it is a rebuild. Just because they were optimistic doesn't mean they thought they were a contending team. Vegas liked the Hawks chances better than the Raiders. The smart money was on the Hawks been a better team.

Sorry, I don’t think there was a high level of belief that Pete and Geno would make that team competitive. I follow the NFL, and that wasn’t the story line. Fantasy takes were draft Jeanty because, Pete RB, and draft Bowers because he’s a stud, and maybe take a late flier in Geno because they’ll be losing a lot and throwing the ball late. But, being competitive!? Sorry, that was not the consensus.
