Zero chance he doesn't get resigned. That would be a JS priority- obviously. He's not an idiot. Probably already in talks with the agent to gauge cost. I can see something like a four year extension for 65/75 heavy on bonuses to keep it cap friendly. Yeah, they got him on the cheap. Remember that we have a lot of draft capitol this year. There is a good chance we lose bradford to someone like the jets who will make him the highest paid lineman in the league
Do you really think JS isn't playing the long game here? This is a great move. Like when we picked up shaheed last year and he turned out to be invaluable to the SB run. It was a game changer. This could be too.
That was my first thought. JS didn't make this move unless it seemed very likely they could work out a deal down the road.
If Nelson leaves in FA the Seahawks will get a compensatory 3rd round pick. Why does the trade need to turn on re-signing him? They are getting him basically for free
When has JS ever pulled off one of these trades and NOT resigned the player? Both Nelson and Bradford will be FA - he is not onbly hedging his bets here - he has the chance to put the oline in the convo as one the the league's best with a Nelson extension. Hard to tell if you are being serious with this. We don't need the third round pick more than we need an all-pro guard that can literally bolster the left side of the line for a good 3-4 years.
But yeah, if we get outbid, then we are only out a '28 5th rounder - so either way JS wins this trade. Hard to imagine Nelson coming here and NOT wanting to resign. Seattle is one of the top destination franchises in the league - SB window wide open. A few weeks at the VMAC and he'll be a lifer.
Where did anyone say "the trade turns on resigning him?" Resigning him is the OBVIOUS move here - for both sides.
